1999 Dodge Intrepid from North America - Comments

"I hate this car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

So I guess this is a lesson in disguise.

My graduation/birthday gift is... that's right you guessed it a 1999 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L. I hate this car. If anybody wants it. It is parked right out front of Valencia Community College. List of problems:

Oil light flickers

A/C broke

Squealing from passenger side only at speeds lower than 30 without pressing the gas.

Passenger side window broke

The grass under where my vehicle is parked turned yellow

Oh, here is the icing on the cake...

Soon after getting my car I was ecstatic. I love this car, the look, the size, the comfort. I thought the above mentioned was just the car getting old. So I type into google. "oil light Dodge Intrepid"

My heart dropped. Thousands of people have the same problems and they all lead up to the inevitable. So that was about two weeks ago. Every time I drive it I get scared and all these horror stories run in my head and I wonder... when is my beloved car going to fall to the defect of the manufacturer.

So on Friday August tenth.. ten days from the day I got it back it broke.

I was on the 408 west heading to Kirkman to pick my girl up from orientation. I was in the left lane and sped up to get into the exit lane, since some idiot was blocking me. My radio was turned all the way up and I started to hear a ticking at about 65 miles an hour. When I got to the exit the ticking turned into a clanking, and the engine shut off on a hill coming off a exit ramp. The light was red and my brakes or steering weren't working. Thank god I turned my car on to stop my car.

When I got to Valencia about ten minutes later, going 8 miles an hour on a 50 mile an hour zone. I turned her off, and when I turned her back on it clanks heavily and I feel a stream of air coming from the right side of the engine. My heart is broken. I loved this car. Now she sits on that lot and just leaks onto the black pavement beneath her.

I'm afraid of what the mechanic is going to tell me when I get her towed tomorrow.

"son she is dead. junk her"

"my boy your ole car there needs a new engine."

"now why did you get an Intrepid?"

I'm hoping I can get to stop making noise so I can take her to the nearest defunct lot and squeeze 1500 out of somebody so I can get me a Honda or at least a Toyota.. OR I can use that as a downpayment for one of those piece of crap Suzuki's.

How can Dodge produce such scrappy vehicles?

Oh now they come out with "lifetime warranty" for new 2007 vehicles. They do this because they have lost the trust of the consumer and are looking for ways to sell vehicles...

HOW ABOUT THIS RADICAL IDEA.

Take your time...

Hire engine designers with a brain to know that you can't have 90 degree oil valves.

BACK UP YOUR VEHICLES.

Take responsibility.

Now the only thing I can hope for is that maybe when I get a Honda, and an ORANGE COUNTY SHERIFF pulls up behind me in a piece of crap Dodge Intrepid and attempts to pull me over for something, I will just bottom the pedal because I know in about five seconds his engine block is going to crack...

Thank you DODGE for allowing a crime of opportunity to occur based solely on the knowledge of your crappy brand.

Oh BTW the offer is still up; 500 for my Intrepid?? Everything is great... engine runs a little funny.

Oh, I got such a kick out of this comment! Thank you for sharing the tragic details of, what appears to be, a great car...NOT!

I, too, was ecstatic to buy my beautiful, GOLD, roomy, comfy, CLEAN, oh so clean, 1999 Dodge Intrepid from a scumbag dealership that promised me the moon and stars with this car...WELL, two months into my relationship with my wonderful car, the engine blew! NO DUMMY LIGHTS COME ON! Just a bunch of clanking...so, I'm down my HEFTY deposit and my nice looking, comfy, felt like a million bucks in it, car and back to driving my faithful and loyal Chevy Conversion Van :)

What an awful, awful lesson learned.

DO NOT BUY THESE CARS!!!

Stacey from Oregon.
