I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that looks very sharp as it sets motionless in my drive. I purchased this car in 2001 with 17,000 miles on it. In June of 2003, at about 75,000 miles, the oil light would come on at a stop light in low idle. As soon as the accelerator was touched it would go out. I took it straight to the dealer. After three trips in one week, three oil pressure sensors and a complete oil system flush the dealer could find no reason the light was still coming on. They said that the oil pressure was fine and that it had to be a short in the wiring. After declining to pay them to trace all the wires, the light stopped coming on about three days later. Jump to Late October 2003 and 80,000 miles. Setting at a stop light on the way to go shopping the engine suddenly started to run very rough with all the dash lights coming on and off. The car would move at about 1/2 mile per hour to get to the edge of the road and out of the intersection. Ironically it was only a 1/4 mile from the dealership. Now I have a car that I owe $10,000 on and the dealership says it will take $7,000 - $9,000 to fix it (new engine). An independent mechanic had it for a month and brought it back and said he would not touch it. The dealership just says "yes, it is a bad engine design. We know a lot of people with them in their back yard." I could feel the love! If you have any vehicle with this Chrysler 2.7L engine please be very aware of the history of this engine. if it's drivable, drive to a dealership and trade. Quickly!

R Handy.

Hello.

I am a 99 intrepid and am starting to experience the problem with the oil light coming on. I have read all the posts and was wondering if there is a class action suit pending? If so how can I get on the list. I am also wondering about the effects of using a synthetic oil. My engine still runs good except for light smoke, and today the oil light is not on. We have cleaned the old pan a couple of times, and pulled the valve covers and cleaned them.. 65.000 miles on the car. Use synthetic oil and hope... or trade while the light is out?

Homer

my email is hemered@aol.com if you have any info on the suit.

Thank God! I am not alone. I have a 1999 Intrepid bought in 2000 with 15,000 miles. I have

104,000 miles on it (yes I've been rolling). However I have had problems with it knocking and jerking not wanting to go forward, the windows will not let down at times, the driver side window clamp is broken and I am taking this in tomorrow to be repaired, sometimes heater or ac will get stuck so I have to keep flipping switch to get it to work, and the oil light will come on at a traffic light for no reason and flicker, when I take off it goes out. this has happened twice in the last two months. Also now when I crank up white smoke comes out. I only owe 4,200 more on it and was not planning on purchasing anything else for a while. However, I may trade it in and get something else. I have kept my oil changed every 3000 to 3500 miles and have the records to prove it. I would like to know about the class action suit here is my e-mail address, honeydriven@yahoo.com. Please if any one can help email me. Incidentally I work in an automotive plant and our number one thing is quality. While I can't name the company, many of it's cars are always in the top three. Too bad I already had my intrepid when I went to work here. I am seriously thinking of owning one of my company cars. Something has to be done. Enough is enough. Agree?

My girlfriend purchased this car 6 months ago, with approximately 80000 miles on it, and it was a nightmare from the start.

The A/C had to be fixed in the first month,

A transmission speed sensor failed,

The radiator cooling fan failed on a 1000 mile trip, causing the engine to overheat and stranding us.

It leaked water into the passenger side every time it rains.

It had electrical problems with the cabin lights, which we tracked down to the dimmer switch (after a lot of wasted money on other components)

And finally, last night it suddenly started making a huge amount of noise around the overhead cam area. It was so bad we decided to tow it home. After I did some research on the web, and from the comments on this site I suspect sludge buildup causing oil deprivation. We were very diligent in changing oil every 3000 miles, but it doesn't seem to have helped any.

FYI, take a look at these sites

http://www.complain-complain.com/com/list_complaint.asp?table=chrysler

http://www.alldata.com/TSB/16/991621EZ.html.

I just hope we can get rid of it without losing too much money... but I don't think that is going to happen. We will definitely do better research next time before purchasing a car, and it wouldn't be a dodge!

We have a 1998 dodge intrepid and it's been a problem. we get our oil changes on time, but a week after the oil change we have to add more oil. Our transmission sensor went out our cost was $750, fan motor $385, water pump and freeze plug $830 parts and labor. When you need a part it's always a dealers item. We had the water pump and freeze plug fix, the engine light came on and now the car has the jerking motion when trying to accelerate. The dealer said to bring it in they will look at it for another $50 dollars. I think it's a ripoff. How do I find out about this law suit? email: juststand4jesus@bellsouth.net.

Hello.

We bought a 2000 Dodge Interpid from an individual six months ago... It had 55,000 miles on it and the car was running beautiful. The check engine light came on and we were told it was oxygen sensors so they replaced them TWICE. Then finally, the light kept coming back on and we were told it was the catalytic converters... they replaced both of those and we had no problems at all. Suddenly the engine started ticking and knocking so we brought it to our local dealer and they told us the engine is shot and needs to be replaced...4800.00 just for the unit!!! We only have had the car for six months!!! There is a list of people compiling for a class action lawsuit against Chrysler because hundreds of thousands of people seem to have the same problem with the same engine...2.7Liter Please add your name to the class action ASAP!!!

My 2000 Intrepid 2.7 has just started the flickering oil light at an idle when it is warm. I am hoping to sell it (VERY CHEAP) before the serious problems start! I need to resolve a starting problem to sell it, sometimes (OFTEN) the starter does not activate when the key is turned. It will always (SO FAR) start to crank after a 10 to 20 second delay. All cables have been checked and cleaned, the battery has been checked, the starter has been replaced and the starter relay has been replaced. I hope someone can help with this problem? THANKS, denhm@aol.com.

I bought a 1998 Intrepid 2 yrs ago with 76,000 miles and also have had nothing, but problems with it. 1) Had to buy pump for windshield washer fluid. 2) Have changed rotors and breaks because of vibration when braking. (I think it is warped rotors to tell you the truth). 3) Had the same thing happen with the oil light flickering at idle speed when hot, then going off when it I accelerate. The problem with that is the wire going into the oil pressure sending unit. A $18.00 fix. Just take the connector apart, connect the new, and splice the wires together. Will fix it. 4) Now have problems starting the car when it is warm. Engine sounds like its going to explode. Really wish I didn't buy one. I still have $5000 to pay on it and would also like info on how to sue for faulty products. This can't be legal for the manufacturer to do this. CAN IT?

Wow! for the way I see the Dodge Intrepid, might looks nice, but it's a real crap huh?!

Along with the Chevrolet Malibu, the Intrepid it's one of the cars with a big number of blue faces.

Most of the unsatisfied owners, complain about the 2.7 Engine. Like General Motors with the Malibu brake rotors, Dodge seems to pretend, does not know about the 2.7 V6 Engine...

...and probably will keep pretending...

But for what???

If you make a bad product, that has a serious flaw, as a honest company you should recognize your fault a take that bad product form the market. If not at least, recall them to fix the serious flaw.

It's truly said when big corporations pretend does not know about the problems in their own products and sometimes they pretend, just to win some awards.

I'm amazed that the Chevrolet Malibu conquered a JD Power quality award.

What's wrong with Detroit anyway?

Hi. I am very worried. I have recently purchased a '98 intrepid SE. I purchased in August of 2003 with around 50,000 miles from a dealership. I had talked to the previous owners, who were elderly and had no trouble with the automobile. Currently the car has about 68,000. I once had the oil light come on and eventually shut off after I shut it off. A few odd things have happened with the AC/heater. I had the heat on and it started pumping out cold air all of a sudden. I haven't used the AC for quite a while, but now I am worried that it won't work this summer when I need it. I haven't had any trouble with the Window controls yet. I had my dad change my oil last time and he said it was pretty black. Should I use a different oil? I am currently using Valvoline. I will not go to a dealership to get the oil changed even thougth the previous owners got the oil changed every 3,000 miles and all service work done at the dealership. It seems like most people who had trouble with their engines got their oil changed at the dealership, and the engine went shortly after an oil change. Also, I noticed that there is a clicking noise coming from one of the belts. The only time I didn't notice the noise was right after an oil change. Oh, I almost forgot. I just got my brake pads changed today. The steering wheel was shaking a little before I changed them, now it's shaking terribly. I just figured that I needed new rotors. No big deal. But now it sounds like this may be a regular thing for this type of car. One odd thing about the brakes was that the rear brakes were the bad ones and I'm pretty sure it's the rear rotors giving me the shaking problem also. I don't recall ever driving with the e-brake on, and maybe the previous oweners had recently changed the front and not the back brakes, but I was wondering if this is what is happening with other dodge intrepids. If anyone can help me, please email me back. I am a college student that has put all of her money into a vehical that I thought was going to be very trustworthy. I am in no position to trade and I still owe 5,000 on it. Maybe if I do something different I can get really lucky and it may last me through the next couple of years.

In May of 2001 I bought a used 1999 Dodge Intrepid with.

60,000 miles on it. By September of 2001 my engine died. I

paid a little over 5,000 dollars for a used 2001 engine

with 20,000 miles on it. As of today the engine light is

on, I'm afraid that this engine might die also. Please do

not buy any Dodge Intrepids, you will suffer more than

enjoy it.

Please give me information on the Class action lawsuit Drail2000@hotmail.com.

Me and my wife have a 98 Intrepid, with the 24 valve 3.2 with 57000 miles on it. Only trouble with ours has been window clip on driver side, hope for all the blown motor owners you get your cars fixed for free. Has any one had a 3.2 to blow yet? I also change my own oil and I use 10-30 Havoline, sorry for all your troubles in the dodge!!!

My husband and I both work hard to get things we need to keep our family going. We needed a new car, but couldn't afford one. We got 2,600 in income tax return we were so excited. We met a man who sold us a 1998 Dodge intrepid. The outside and inside of the car were beautiful. The engine clean enough to eat off. We jumped right in without a safety net. 3 days later the car broke down. 200.00 spent trying to find out what was wrong. A new thermostat was put in. One week later the car overheated. 300.00,another thermostat put on, a coolant sensor put on,... got the car back home on the way home it overheated again!! Took the car back to the same mechanic said there was oil in the tube the first spark plug was in more money, payed to take care of it. Drove fine for another week. Sunday the car broke down again! Took to different dealer, said it was the radiator had it replaced. Withing two months besides the above stuff we have had the fuel rail replaced, the tie rods replace, oil sensor... All together we have put aprox. 3,000 into the car; besides what we payed for it. We hoped after all we had done it would be OK. But alas no. Now it is told that our head is cracked and to find out for sure it will cost 500 to take apart the engine to see and if so 2,000 to fix it. We were robbed. We can't afford to fix the car nor can we sell it to someone else. We have to back up and punt now. Special note if it looks too good to be true believe me it is : (We have now owned the car for 3 months it is parked and going no where and we again are out of a car.

Has anyone had a problem with the coolant reservoir? All of a sudden my coolant light came on. I was stuck in wall-to-wall traffic & people. 60 seconds later smoke is coming from the engine. There's a hole in the coolant bottle. To make a long story short.. I repaired it with tape. I was in Philly at the time and I live in NJ. Got home fine. Before I was able to replace the bottle.. I noticed the temp gauge would start to rise when I was stuck in traffic.. as long as I was moving at a higher speed the temp gauge was fine. Had coolant bottle replaced.. thought my temp gauge problem was fixed (not so).. awaiting results from my mechanic.. Denise.
