I am a owner of a 1998 Intrepid 2.7. I just bought this car 2 weeks ago, and I would like to know if I can return it to the dealer and get a refund? It seems that I'm starting to have engine problems and the other issues already mentioned.
I am so disappointed, it really looked like a really nice car you can rely on! Please, if there's a suit

I recently brought a 1998 Dodge Intrepid and have spent all of my savings trying to get it fixed.
When I purchased the car, there was a loud noise while idling, found out that it was the alternator and exhaust manifold. Together it would be around $500 - that was cool.
A week later, the engine light came on and the car knocks and sputs while driving. The oil light also comes on, even though it is full.
Then one day this loud noise came back and I believe it was the cooling fan. Well I was in traffic one day, and the fan noise got louder and louder until it stopped, the car then got so hot that we had to pull over to let it cool, this happened all the way in Chicago and I live in Louisville, I wanted to leave it there, but my mom wouldn't let me. I thought this car would be good, but it has been nothing but trouble and I WILL NEVER GET A DODGE AGAIN!
I got my 1998 Intrepid with a 2.7l engine a month ago with only 90,000 miles on it. Already it has gave out on me twice. I went to a mechanic the first time the engine started smoking and he said that the engine blew. But then I went back to the person that I bought the car from to complain and he came to look at the car and he fixed the problem for $90. The anti-freeze line just broke and he fixed it quick. Then after another week of having it the engine started smoking again and anti-freeze was again leaking from the bottom. The starter just plain old sucks. I've already had to have someone replace that. Honestly, I am ready to turn in the car and get a Cavalier or something!
We bought a 1998 Dodge Intrepid with a 2.7 engine in 2000. It had 54k miles on it. Since then, it now has the 3rd new engine in it. It now has 110k miles on it. We have also had problems with the windows, ignition switch, AC, vibration upon braking, and trunk lock button not working. The tension pulley has broken off twice while driving at high speeds. We, too, would like info on that law suit, if it still exists. Please email at scottandscotty@yahoo.com. Many thanks.
Well it seems for everyone to have the same problem...I'm only 18 yrs old I brought a 98 dodge intrepid about 1 month ago wit 96,000 miles the car ran fine for the 1st 2 days after that a noise came out under the car...got it fixed for $200 it was OK I guess then my battery died out..now my check engine light is on... my car died in the middle of a green light, after 5 minutes it turned back on and I came straight home... now I'm really worry because I don't want this car to die... if there's a law suit

Since my last post in 2005, I've had to get the tranny rebuilt by Cottman Transmission, a national chain of tranny shops. Car now has 92000 miles. I have a feeling it was probably another sensor that went bad, but Cottman told me they had to open the tranny to diagnose it further. Long story short, I had to pay $2000 grand for a rebuild. One month after the warranty expired, a noise manifested itself and grew louder. I took it to the dealer and they found the crank sensor loose and damaged. $437 for the part and labor. I finally replaced the coolant bleeder valve that had been leaking for so long. There's an aftermarket unit made by Dorman for $48. It was a real pain to remove and replace. I still have a small oil pan leak that needs to be addressed. I'm still using Amsoil 100% synthetic in the engine and I'm also using their synthetic tranny fluid. I'm still changing the oil once a year which works out to about 8-9000 miles. The engine sounds great.
Is there actually a class action lawsuit on this car?

I'm form mexico, I buy a 98 intrepid 97 an this engine is very bad the time chain es brooken and the price only for a time chain in a yard is 70 dolars, new $135. when you open the engine god that's icredible what a sludge I recommend one engine from chrysler the 3.5 litter is beetter and don't have problems like 2.7.
I just bought a used 2000 Intrepid from a private party. We drove it home, titled it and insured it. My husband drove it to work and there it sits. Now we have no transportation, two young kids, and a whole lot of worry, (especially after reading the other comments). Hopefully it will be a cheap repair, but after a little research, I am doubtful. We did hear loud engine clanking right before it died. I am crossing my fingers it's nothing too costly or we too will have a very expensive lawn ornament and no way to get to work.
So all this talk, and no action... how do you start a class action lawsuit anyway? I'll do it. I'm 19 and just spent my life savings on a 2000 Intrepid, 2.7 of course, and it crapped out 2 months later. So how do we get the lawsuit going? email me someone! freckles132000@yahoo.com.
Yeah. So I just got a 98 Dodge Intrepid ES and I've had it for a week and its already crapping out on me. I go to start the car and it won't start. I'm guessing it's the same problem as everyone else's and its going to need a new engine. Don't have the money for that : (

Will people just not buy the 2.7 the 3.2 is better. Problem with the 2.7 is the oil return holes are to small and causing the rings to fry. I have over 120000 on my 98 Intrepid ES 3.2 24 valve engine. Also there is no sludge in it. Mostly the sludge will develope no matter if you do change every 3000 mile as long as you keep changing oil brands. DO NOT CHANGE OIL BRANDS, STICK WITH ONE BRAND.
I just bought a 1998 dodge intrepid 2.7 liter at an auction. It had 115k miles on it. Not even two miles from the auction the engine makes a loud rumbling noise and dies. I take it to the mechanic and he says it needs a new engine or he can rebuild it for 2 grand. I'm not sure if its worth it. I need a car to get to work and I just spent all my money at the auction. I could use some advice or whats up with the class action suit. Someone email me please.

I purchased a 2004 dodge intrepid with 77000 miles and the check engine light came on only 1 month after I had it on my commute to work this mourning after reading some of the things in here makes me not wanna go get an estimate, but I am can I get info on the class action lawsuit my e-mail is gpitts85@gmail.com.
We bought our 2000 Intrepid new, and it now has 95,000 miles. Have performed regular oil changes over the years.
We were driving on the interstate when engine light came on, and then the car died about a minute later. The cost for a new engine is between $4300 - $5500.
Electric window switch has not worked in years.
Rubber sealings around windows and trunk have also been loose for years.
Interested in class-action lawsuit. Please contact me.
Just replaced the 3.2 in our 98 ES last week. $1,625 for the used replacement with 50,000 miles on it.
Getting ready to drop the third quart of oil in it in a second.
Blown engine, transmission sensors, freaky gauges, multiple front end problems, windows, trunk latch, etc...
A beautiful heartache of a car.. If there is a lawsuit please include me!...
And I was once a Mopar man
