1999 Dodge Intrepid review from North America

What things have gone wrong with the car?
Jumped timing
bent the rods.
General comments?
We too are 1999 Dodge Intrepid owners for 1 year. Our Intrepid had 55,000 miles on it and it now has 76,000.
It is a 2.7L and has jumped timing and bent the rods.
We have an extended warranty on the car, but the warranty company want receipts for oil changes every 3,000 miles. The contend that the timing jump was due to sludge buildup from lack of maintenance.
Our Dodge dealer mechanic said there wasn't any sludge buildup in the oil pan. They claimed that what the warranty company took pictures of was debris from tearing the engine down in preparation for repair.
This same Dodge dealer did extensive work on our car 3 months prior consisting of replacing the crank sensor, platinum plug tune-up, transmission flush, oil change and extensive wire replacement which the warranty company would not cover any of the costs.
The Dodge mechanic stated that if there had been sludge in the oil pan it would have been detected when they did the above work. The mechanic also stated that sludge buildup comes from lack of maintenance over an extended period of time.
No matter what we do the warranty company seems to find a way out of honoring the warranty.
The Dodge dealer stated that he has seen a lot of 2.7L Intrepids with the same or very similar problem lately.
If anyone is initiating a class action lawsuit against Dodge on the 2.7L engine and problems associated with that engine we would love to be involved in the law suit.
