1999 Dodge Intrepid review from North America
"Very roomy comfortable car, but I'll never buy a Daimler-Chrysler product again!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
First 7 months of owning the car it broke down 4 times and had to be towed to dealer. Problem each time was crankcase sensor failing which was covered under warranty, but they could not tell me whether it was fixed permantely or if it will re-occur due to some design/engineering problem.
Next repair was thermostat housing which was leaking. Took it to my dealer who informed me that it is a common problem with the 2.7V6!! When I bought the car, I also bought a $1800Cdn. extented warranty. Informed by my dealer that this was not covered. Part and labor at dealer cost me $312Cdn.Rip off!!
In winter of 2001,apply brakes and started to get hissing noise under dash. Two days later after first incident of hissing, brakes seized. Problem was leaking brake booster, lines were freezing in cold temperatures. Very dangerous in traffic!!
In April 2002 on my way to work, high velocity speed sensors went in transmissions.$680 in repairs, parts, labour, computer diagnostic hook up!!!
In winter 2002,brake problems again!
Now summer 2003,car is leaking oil and must be checked regularly. At times, gray smoke, slightly blue is emitted.
My last car was a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird. Traded it in for this 1999 Intrepid.1992 3.1v6 Sunbird had 358,780KMS on it!!! Only repairs besides on it besides normal stuff like brakes, oil changes, was a electric fan,EGR valve, fan belt, starter. Not bad for 358,780KMS.I should have kept the GM product-Sunbird!!!
