1998 Dodge Intrepid Base review from North America

One day in and the passenger rear power window quits working. Dealer "at their own pace, "fixes" the problem..."

3 months in the Crank sensor goes bad. So the car won't start. Cost: $350 installed.

6 months in car develops a miss and sometimes won't restart when hot. I take car to several mechanics who in all charge about $500 to no avail.

12 months in and the car's check engine light comes on and begins to miss really bad. Dealer (Commonwealth Dodge KY) quotes $1000 to start fixing the problem... and then "it may still need some work." In other words they have no clue... Lead mechanic tells me that the Intrepid engines are the worst Dodge has ever made... That is saying a lot... remember the 80s?

Normally I wouldn't care. But Nobody deserves this abuse:

1. You will spend 1/4 to half what the car is worth in repairs in the 1st year alone.

2. You will have a car that is totally unreliable. This is foe AAA members only. The car will need to be towed about every 3 months to have a sensor replaced.

3. The resale value is most likely to be the lowest of any domestic vehicle.

4. If you're not a mechanic... you can't work on this car!!! Only what Dodge allows us to reach in the jungle of plastic, steel and wire harnesses.

On another note Dodge had or has a lawsuit presented that brings to light that many of the parts for this car are unavailable anywhere other that the Dodge dealerships...greed/stupidity=dodge.
