"3 year life span"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

At 65000 miles, my drive chain snapped and took my engine along for the ride, smashing pistons and tearing appart my valves. Needless to say, the only hope is a new engine, but id rather buy a new car then drop $6000 into that pieace of junk.

The seals on the back doors, both sides, came off, the driver side door stopped opening from the inside. I can only open my door from the outside through the window, which stopped working right before she bit it.

General comments?

The point is, why have an american car with a mitsibishi motor when you can buy a mitsibishi that was installed by the people who made it. The next dodge i'll by is a viper, and i'll never buy a viper.

Actually the car has a longer lifespan than 3 years. All you need is a secondary means of transportation, a good towing service, a VERY fat wallet and a flexible work schedule as you can't rely on being there. I bought my '99 intrepid new in '98 and still have it. Actually the dealership has it again. This time my transmission took on a mind of it's own just as the check engine light came on. This was 360 miles since my last trip in for service, which included servicing the transmission. Total mileage to date is 66,281. Repairs done since purchased are two window assemblies, engine fans twice, dash lights twice, engine, rack & pinion, battery twice, A/C repair and transmission repair to name most of them. I replaced the "sludged" engine at my expense not knowing it was a design defect and I know it is normal to replace the battery, but what isn't normal is having to access the battery through the wheel well instead of the hood which required having to pay a mechanic to do something I would normally do.

I have had my Intrepid for 3 years now and have had minimal problems so far. Only brakes and the water pump needed to be replaced. Now I have passed the 90,000 mile mark and my check engine light is on, which I see from everyone else is normal around that mileage. I have put approx. 20,000 highway miles on it and it really hasn't been that bad. I may feel differently if I find out that the check engine light is due to the infamous 'sludge'!

I purchased a 2001 dodge intrepid in Missoula, Mt. I have maintained the vehicle with services and such as is recommended in the owner's manual. Last week the 2.7 engine I am told (after a $350.00 DIAGNOSIS WHICH IS NOT COVERED BY Warranty) that the engine blew a head gasket which caused the motor to over heat. Since the vehicle is a Dodge, I had it towed to the Dodge Dealer ($75.00) as was suggested by our warranty company "ultimate warranty Corp" which is a whole other nightmare in itself. no one can give me a reason why the head gasket would blow subsequently causing all of the engine coolant to go into the engine. no warnings, no lights came on!need new engine $5000.00+$2000.00 labor, still owe 6700.00 on the car. the car blue books at $6500.00.Our warranty MIGHT help us with $800.00 towards this. my last oil service etc. was two weeks before the engine blew. Warranty company says I should have had some indication OF A PROBLEM , warning lights or temp indicator and shut the car down, THERE WAS NO WARNING! BECAUSE THE CAR OVERHEATED THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE ENGINE, BUT FROM WHAT I AM FINDING OUT ABOUT 2.7

DODGE ENGINES IT WOULD BE FOOLISH TO SPEND $7000.00 (WHICH I

I DON'T HAVE) ON ANOTHER INEVITABLE BREAKDOWN. I DON'T HAVE A CHOICE, but TO LET THE CAR GO BACK TO THE BANK, WHICH WILL RUIN MY CREDIT, AND THEN, HOW DO I GET A LOAN FOR A DIFFERENT CAR? THIS 2.7 ENGINE HAS A REAL DOMINO AFFECT IN PEOPLES LIVES.

Once again, this engine is NOT a Mitsubishi engine.

Chrysler has used Mitsubishi engines in the past (the 3.0L V6 commonly found in LeBarons and New Yorkers in the late 1980s and early 1990s), but this 2.7L V6 is an all-Chrysler design.

It was designed by Chrysler on its computer CAD system and is assembled by Chrysler at its US engine plant.

It's quite unfair to blame Mitsubishi for Chrysler's poor engineering and unwillingness to stand behind this terrible engine.

I drive a Dodge Intrepid 2.7L. It has been an amazing car. It has 183,000 miles on it and it has been running like a charm. I have driven the heck out of this car and it has only caused me one problem - a sensor in the transmission went out but it was a cheap fix ($400.00) considering that I have had the car for 5 years (I bought it used) and have not had any issues other than that. It has been an amazing car and I am looking into buying another one.
