"I will never buy another Dodge product"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Four times window off track.

Two window motor replacements.

One Transmission replacement at 16,000 miles.

One torque converter replacement at 35,000 miles.

Three speed sensor switches replaced.

One electronic mirror replaced.

Internal lights blink on and off,

dealer can't find problem.

When down shifting from second to first gear car sometimes bucks and stalls, dealer can't find problem.

Headlights are fogged up.

Two blown speakers.

Rear wheel bearings replaced.

Four transmission sensors replaced.

Numerous times, about 5, car locked in second gear.

I know there is more, but I can't remember them all.

General comments?

I purchased the car new. Car is a good looker. Very comfortable. However, if you are considering this one you better have a friend that owners a tow truck and have a wad of cash for above normal repairs.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, I had to purchase a $2,500.00 extended warranty, $100.00 deductible, from Dodge just before the 36,000 mile warranty expired. I did this for fear of having to pay for problems later on.

While this warranty has covered the repairs and given me a sense of security, I have lost countless hours of arranging service, taking it to the dealer, renting cars, etc.

Both the dealer and even Dodge have indicated numerous times to me that my transmission problems, light blinking problem, is the first they heard. Well, if you perform a search on the web you will find hundreds of these posting. This is one big cover up.

Well the transmission problem is a obvious. YOUR KILLING YOUR TRANSMISSION. On any truck and/or car if you down shift the car it's going to buck. It is like on any Manual speed transmission if your RPMs and speed are to high it's going to stall. If any big rig slams the Jake-brakes on the truck is going buck forward and may stall out. I'll run through the Virgina mountains start to slow down before you down shift, then as you come out of the turn, up shift and see if this helps. Remember if you take care of your car it's going to take car if you.

I own a 2000 Dodge Intrepid ES with 3.2L V6 and Autostick® automatic transmission. It just recently turned 76K miles. I have not had problem 1. I religiously change the oil myself every 3K miles. I keep up with routine maintenance and it appears all is well. I get about 29-31 mpg, which is pretty good as roughly half of my driving is stop and go city traffic. When the oil is replaced, I always check the color and condition. I could probably go a lot longer in replacing the oil, but I am erring on the side of caution and replace it anyway. Transmission is a dream, shifts nicely, love the Autostick®, does well in the winter. No complaints.

I own a 2001 Intrepid, 2.7L V6 and we have had a transmission sensor replaced at 70,000 miles. That's it. The oil is changed religiously which I believe is key to ANY engine long term survival. If you want it to last and give you very little problem, CHANGE THE OIL before 5,000 miles for long distance driving and before 3,500 for stop and go city driving.

That is so exactly right. I wish more people would take care of their cars. I love my Intrepid. It's a 2002 and hasn't had one thing go wrong with it. We have driven it through the rockies, all over the province, put many km on it, and with some proper maintenance the performance stays the same as a brand new car.

We own a 2001 Chrysler Intrepid (2.7L SE) and have not had any problems with it. As others have stated, we also keep up with our oil changes, because apparently there have been quite a few problems with the engines dropping out in them, if you don't. Other than this, it drives like a dream, looks awesome, and is comfortable.

Remember, each manufacturer produces lemons and unfortunately, you got stuck with one. Give Chrysler another try, but try another dealership.

With our first Intrepid, we had many issues with it only because the dealer was unable to service the vehicle. After taking it to another dealer, the problems were solved.

Intrepids are horrible unreliable cars! I will never buy a dodge again. I babied this car and it was still unreliable. I used to hate japanese cars, but now I'm happy with my reliable lexus sc400.

I have a 1996 Intrepid (3.3L) with 128,000 miles. Over all I have had very good luck. I take care of the car though. I think that is why so many people have problems. I change oil every 3000 miles or less. Tranny flush every 36,000 miles. I bought the car with 35,000 miles for $6,800. I think it was well worth the money.

I'm looking to buy my first car. I've come across a 1995 dodge intrepid with 95,000 miles on it and for a good price. I really love the car, but I've heard that the dodge intrepid transmissions are bad news.. Is there any way I can buy this car, and avoid any major transmission problems??

If the Intrepid has a 3.3 V6 engine in it, you should not have any engine problems, as I have a Caravan with a 3.3 V6 in it with 170,000 miles on it. As long as the previous owner has kept up with the oil changes and not driven this car like it is a race car, you should be fine. This Caravan is my fourth Chrysler product and I have had no transmission problems with any of them. I have owned 2 Plymouth Acclaims, a Plymouth Voyager, which went past 200,000 miles before someone hit me and totaled it, and now this Caravan. I purchased the Caravan with 85,000 miles on it, and so far, it has treated me as good as my previous Chrysler vehicles. As far as the transmission, pull the dipstick and look at the fluid and also smell it-it should be dark pink to reddish in color. If it is brownish and smells burnt, it means that the transmission has not had the fluid changed and has most likely had a hard life.

I buy and sell a lot of vehicles and have had several dodge vehicles with the 2.7 v6.

I have had a lot of problems with oil burning, transmissions problems and other problems. The oil must be changed very regulor to keep the oil return ports from stoping up in the heads. If this happens you can get ready to replace the engine.

I do not buy many dodge vehicles any more. The repairs are very expensive on these vehicles.

We have a 1999 Intrepid with the 2.7 engine it has 246,900 miles on it. Prior to 100,000 miles the speed sensor went out and the oxygen sensors were replaced. We replaced the struts and strut bushing around 150,000 miles and the oxygen sensors again. The alternator lasted to around 243,000 miles and the radiator over flow tank sprung a leak at 246,000. It is on it's 3rd set of front brakes and 2nd,. set of back brakes. The transmission fluid has had 3 changes, the engine oil is changed at 3,000 mile intervals. It looks great and runs good. It is starting to use a little oil and leak a few drops, but it has a lot of miles on it. We really like the car and consider it a good and dependable automobile.

I currently have a 2003 Intrepid SE with 51k miles. I bought it in 2004 with 28k miles. I love the car! I have not had a single problem with it. Oil&filter changed every 3k miles/3 months.

Actually, I found a 2004 SE with 6k miles on it that I am considering buying from the same dealer I got the first one. I have seen tons of the older Intrepid on the road. All of the owners I have talked to have not had any problems with there cars either.

I am an owner of 4 Chrysler products, but I would not recommend the 2.7L Intrepid to anyone. I have a 2001 SE model with 114,000 mile on it and have made sure to do all of the routine maintenance. In the four years I have owned it, I have had the transmission replaced (at 13,000 miles) the fuel pump replaced (at 60,000 miles) the right front wheel bearing replaced (at 80,000 miles) and currently have the car in the shop having the torque converter replaced. This car is garage kept, has mostly highway miles on it and routinely gets its oil changed at 3,000 mile intervals. I love the ride, the mileage and the looks of the vehicle, but it is the least reliable car I have owned in 30 years of driving. Don't make the same mistake I did.

All I can say is that I have 2004 2.7L Intrepid and it is a biggest $17000 piece of junk I have ever owned at 28000 it had to have a new motor Chrylser has the worst new car warranty I have ever seen if your car has been owned before you pay for what ever some one else did to it and I CHANGED MY OIL I buy a new car ever three years, but I won't buy a Chrylser again,if you guy that praise them would take 5 seconds to look around your back doors were they (put them together I'm told) you probly won't like your great car as much as you think you do, or you don't care how the body of your car looks bad joints in the door rust under the hood were the fan is, touch it the paint will crumble in your hands helps to hide it, but it's there if you say it not you haven't looked very good THEY ALL DO IT

I'm also in a suite with Chrylser for there warranty that not worth the paper it printed on.

I have a 2001 Intrepid SE - 2.7 liter engine. 126,000 miles. The only problems I've had is having to wait 2 hours at walmart to get the oil changed every 3000 miles. That's it. Just take care of your car... simple as that.
