General comments?
This was my first brand new car. I had wanted an Intrepid since they first came out in 1993. My husband bought me my 2000 model for my birthday in 1999. I think we had it back to the dealership about 3 weeks after owning it and several times thereafter during the 3/36 warranty. I'm sure glad we didn't purchase the extended warranty. We changed oil in this car every 3000 miles. I babied it. First, it was a window motor and weather stripping, then another window motor, then there was something wrong with the intake manifold and it had to be replaced. I was hoping this was the last of my dream car's problems and then the warranty ran out. The third window motor went bad and the air conditioning started making a strange noise and started blowing hot air. I was driving to work one morning and the transmission wouldn't shift and the speedometer wouldn't work. (Speed Sensor) Luckily my husband used to be a mechanic (years ago) and fixed these problems. We finally paid the thing off and 3 months later, I drove it to work. At lunch, I got in my car and started it up and the engine knocked like crazy. Had to have the thing towed home. It only had 63000 miles on it. Hubby checked it out and found that the timing chain had stretched out and the timing chain tensioner had gone bad. I started researching on the Internet and found this site. The more I read the more afraid I became. Hubby was working on this piece of junk and getting it back into running condition. He took the top half of the engine down because he wanted to check everything out before he put it back together. What did he find? SLUDGE! We talked it over and decided to fix it, flush the engine, and trade the thing in. Hated getting back into another car payment, but didn't want to take a chance on being stranded in Chrysler's nightmare. Hubby got it fixed in a few days and we traded it in on a new Chevy 2500HD the same weekend. When I bought this car I had to drag hubby kicking and screaming to the Dodge dealership. He's never been a Chrysler fan. I learned my lesson. I will never buy another Chrysler product again. I'm just glad I was able to get rid of the thing virtually unscathed. Cost about $400.00 to fix it and got $6000.00 trade in at the Chevy dealership July of 04. Thought we did pretty good considering the trade in on it was $4800.00 blue book.
