1995 Dodge Neon Sport review from North America
"Good value for a first car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Head gasket replaced at 120,000.
EGR valve currently needs to be replaced at 255,000+ miles.
All 4 struts finally blown at 255,000+ miles.
Cat needs replacing at 255,000+ miles.
General comments?
I've had this car since 2002 with about 90,000 miles on it. Now in 2009 I have put at least 160,000+ miles on it. (total of about 255,000+ miles) The only time it has broke down on me was currently when WE failed to tighten the bolts on the idler pulley that shredded up the timing belt and busted a hole in the oil pump. No bent valves as the result. The water pump was barely holding on one time (about 120,000 miles) but the car still kept clipping along.
Maintenance like replacing the radiator, timing belts, tires, plugs and wires were done. Oil changes every 3,000 miles. I have taken care of the maintenance on this car and has run perfectly all these years and miles later. The transmission is starting to act up, but these 3 speed transmissions are pretty tough. I have gotten my money out of this car.
The driver seat is uncomfortable.
Noisy windows and the windows get off track.
Weatherstrips wear out.
Paint is finally starting to crack and chip.
All in all, a good car if maintained correctly, and is still running strong going into the 300,000 mile mark.
