My 2001 neon was bought as a replacement for my 1986 Dodge Omni GLH.
The Neon is comfortable roomy and very well laid out for a small, inexpensive car.
The Acceleration is unmatched by any other car manufacturer in its class, and above.
The handling performance from the factory is superb.
Bang for buck this is the car.
With respect to the Repairs the car is raced SCCA solo II Autocross, events.
The half shaft and tranny were due to excessive wear and tear race conditions.
It is also Heavily Modded.
Internal engine components, Full suspension, and almost every bolt-on mod available.
Just a note 145 top end with 5500 on the tach, 5th gear.
I'll run first to red at 35 mph.
Second to 65 mph.
Third to 95 mph.
Fourth to 125 mph.
Honda S200nd'd Beware.
Dodge Neon's are exceptional race cars.
I have one of a very few Dodge SRT-4 Neons. I have been on the product testing team for years, and bargained to purchase a pre-production version of the SRT-4. You know, the 2.4 liter, turbocharged, 215 horsepower Neon with 235 foot-pounds of torque available from 2500 - 4500 rpms. This car will take on Mustang GT V8's, Honda S2000's, any Camaro and Firebird, and best of all, a Porsche Boxer. It may be unbelievable you all of you, but the factory 0-60 is 5.9 seconds. With a few adjustments with the turbo and timing, this car will rocket 0-60 in under 5.2 seconds. A Porsche Boxer only manages a 5.5. Top end is 148 with a high final drive ratio.
Neon's are great cars, even if they aren't SRT models. But think about something, it's still a Neon.
