1986 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo review from North America
"The OMNI GLH TURBO is the BEST car ever made"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When drag racing the car (low 13s in 1/4) with the original A525 transmission blew up spider gears through the case and replaced with A568 transmission.
Blew motor (cracked pistons) when overboosted to 30psi.
Head gasket blew when overboosted.
Replaced motor with a 2.4l from a stratus and a neon srt4 turbo and intercooler, blew motor when overboosted with the original 9.4:1 pistons while pulling high 11's in the 1/4 mile.
Upgraded to SRT4 pistons and broke a drive shaft after pulling 10.5 @ 137 in the 1/4.
General comments?
The car is fun and cheap to modify. What other car can you drive on the street getting 40MPG and still pull 10's in the 1/4 mile for only $2500 in parts.
Car is comfortable to drive.
Needed to add an OBX limited slip differential due to the high hp.
