1987 Dodge Raider review from North America
"Fun, but not cheap to run"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The left wheel hub on the 4 wheel drive disintegrated, and I had to pull the whole assembly apart.
The head cracked on it recently, which I understand is common on those. Had to wait a week for a new head to come from montreal, as the old one couldn't be salvaged. When they pulled the head off we found the top of one of the pistons had blown, so we had to replace a piston as well.
Had to rebuild the carb, which was a pain as it took a while to source the carb kit.
Just last week, with less than a thousnd Km on the engine after the head job, another piston blew, and the engine is toast.
..
General comments?
Overall, I would say this vehcle has not been very good to me. I like the looks, and it is fun, but it is also underpowered, and has a lot of body roll, even after I replaced the shocks.
Mileage is mediocre for a small vehicle, and as you can see from the above, reliability is marginal. AS well, Mitsibushi dealers are non-existant, and used parts are hard to find.
