1987 Dodge Ramcharger LE review from North America
"Outlasts imports and Fords hands down"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
First 4 years, 2 alternators; one had no output, and the second one (under parts warranty), bad bearing.
Headliner and steering shaft (replaced with borgeson u-joint shaft).
Two months ago the front end was out of alignment, so I knew it needed one ball joint. I thought I would have the shop replace all ball joints and u-joints. I had one cracked rotor, so I replaced both along with brakes, calipers, bearings, and brake hoses.
Oh yeah and the original starter last year.
Belts, hoses, and all fluids.
General comments?
I am the third owner. The the first owner was the service writer for a Dodge dealer and kept good records. The second owner was a friend of my dads.
The repairs are very minor because they are general maintenance every car needs, and that's not bad for a 20 year old truck. All my Dodges have been very reliable, and I use them hard.
The only complaint is it's a little underpowered. It runs great, is very reliable, and you can beat on it like a Dodge, but it moves like a Ford, meaning it doesn't move fast enough. What it means is when I get behind Fords they are going 5-10 miles below the posted speed limit, but my Dodges always pass them.
