1987 Dodge Ramcharger Royale LE review from North America

"The Dodge Ramcharger is really the Command Vehicle for a M-1A2 Abrams Tank"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The A/C generally had a hard time with the Georgia heat, never could cool truck very-well, even after the 1997 conversion.

The engine and transmission were replaced with Jasper products in 1999 at 93K miles. All is still going well.

In 2004 replaced radiator, carburetor, intake, and added dual exhaust with headers at 138K miles. Runs very clean now.

Steering gear box and new leaf springs replaced in 2007, steering is still not like new, but the ride is tight again.

The cloth interior stayed tough the last 20 years and the power window and locks are at the threshold of repair.

General comments?

The Dodge Ramcharger is really the Command Vehicle for a M-1A2 Abrams Tank, it may not be made of rolled homogeneous steel, but it is still "B-A-Double-D" Dawg Badd.

The roomy interior allows for poor decision making skills when four-wheeling.

Over the years, the exterior has held up to the harsh environments of Florida, Hawaii, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Kansas, and North Carolina, this is the most dependable truck ever, and is the best work-horse in every aspect since the horse and buggy. From swamps to volcanoes - it wanted more.

The Ramcharger drive-train is a "wish" for all - as the industry standard for today. In twenty-two years it has never sat down on the job, I have never had to walk anywhere. The 5.9L engine will go through some gas but the number of passengers, towing weight, or pulling out stumps per mile bumps it to an "average" for economical performance. Although, gaining in years, the Dodge Ramcharger is an All-Time All-Star on any lineup. Now, that I am in my 50's I realize more than ever you "must be young" to undergo such off-road experiences while remaining sane and being able to laugh about it while "Cranking-up the RPM's" for the next off-road course.
