The Ram Charger was not running when I bought it, it had sat for about 3 years. So I had to do a full tune up oil change, battery, and replace the frozen 2 barrel carburetor.
After about a year the automatic hubs stopped locking so I replaced them with Warn manual hubs.
At almost 2 years I replaced the U joints in both axels.
The 2 barrel Holly died again so I replaced the intake and carburetor with an Edelbrock 4 barrel intake and carburetor setup.
The truck is a very good performer on road, but seems to take to off roading like it was supposed to be there.
The 4X4 in a stock Ram Charger is well Ram Tough like the commercial says. I'm not an extreme off roader, but there is very few places I'm afraid to go with my truck.
It handles great on trails and is well suited to trail driving. The 318ci with the 4x4 low gear has plenty of grunt, to get out of most situations.
I am glad to have found this site with a good review of a truck I am currently in the process of purchasing. The Ramcharger prospector I am currently buying is in excellent shape though and I believe that I will be a proud owner at the age of 16 and I can't wait to hit the trails in my own rig with my buddies. Now I can go four wheeling when I want to. Finding articles like this one is very reassuring to me and my purchase.
Thanks Sincerely Tyler.
My dad owned a 1986 Dodge Ramcharger Royal Se with a 318 and he sold it last year. It was a total beast. It only had Bf goodrich All terrain ta's on it and a dynomax exhaust. I'm currently in the process of buying a black 1985 royal se and can't wait to hit the trails with my buddy's. It's mopar or nocar! J.P. from Westmoreland County Pa.
Yes, I've got an 86 ram charger 150 royal se. a 4x4 monster, lots of power. I just bought an eldebrok 4 barrel that rebuilt holley sucked plus theres a piece broken in front. I sure hope that makes mine run better. it spits and sputters to about 15 mph. The dealership said that's what it needs; the computer and battery, catalitic converter, torqe converter muffer baffel, plugs, distributer, cap, rotor, fuel pump, and wires. I did not fix it yet.
