1989 Dodge Ramcharger SE review from North America
"This vehicle is a solid, sturdy, dependable tank that I would recommend to anybody"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I have not had any problems with this car. It had been sitting for a number of years, used as a storage unit, before I purchased it. It did not need anything other than basic stuff like a new battery, etc.
The radio stopped working soon after I bought it.
The rear end makes a clunking noise when I shift into reverse, but so far it has not caused me any problems.
The tailgate does not stay up and I carry a 2x4 to prop it when I have to load groceries, etc.
I have had this car one year and just recently got it inspected again. The only thing that it needed was a light bulb in the front.
I have not had any serious problems with this vehicle. I thought it had 70k miles on it, not 170.
General comments?
This vehicle is a tank, no better word for it. It is huge compared to most of the vehicles on the road today.
It is a bit sluggish on the take off, but it does not hesitate. I can quickly get up to speed.
The ride is smoother than I would have expected from an older SUV like this.
The interior is spacious and comfortable. The driver's side seat belt is a bit uncomfortable and unyielding at times, but that is a minor point. I put my family in his vehicle and I have no worries at all that somebody will get hurt. If you fold down the back seat the vehicle has a huge amount of cargo space. I have moved beds, etc., in it more than once.
The 4WD works great and I am confident that I will never be in a situation that I cannot get where I am going. I live in Maine, and the winters can be tough; this beast will go anywhere under any circumstances!!! The 4WD engages smoothly on the fly. With a full tank of gas (35 gallons), the vehicle is so heavy that most of the time 4WD is not necessary, despite the fact that it is rear wheel drive.
