A/C doesn't work anymore.
Transmission has many erratic problems.
EGR valve needed replacement at 50,000.
Many tune ups needed to keep running.
Very poorly designed transmission on this car.
I would never buy another Dodge.
I have owned my Stratus for two years now and it has been in the shop more than I have got to drive it.
I have had to place sensors, get a tune up, fix the head gaskets, and much much more.
My advice to anyone looking to buy a stratus, is to stay away. They are very nice little cars, but on the other hand, there junk.
I have recently purchased a 1995 Dodge Stratus. It has been in the shop at least once a week. This week's problem is the EGR valve. It keeps blowing the hose off of the engine. My mechanic has tried 3 different methods of fixing this problem this week. I am already dissatisfied with my stratus and it has only been a couple months since I have had it.
I purchased a 95 stratus ES with the 2.o liter with the 5 speed manual trans. My over all experience was great. I drove the car everyday for 8 years with what I believe to be normal maintenance type repairs. I drive my vehicles hard and expect them to deliver, which it did. I always thought it needed more horse power... but with the 5 speed you could get all the 132 horses to the ground quite well for a 4 door sedan. It was fun to drive and great gas mileage with the stick.
In purchasing used vehicles I find that most people choose not to perform the scheduled maintenances outline in the manual and that is the root cause for many of the problems later in the cars usable life. It’s unfortunate that as a result of neglect most people blame the manufactures…You would not expect to life a long healthy life if you did not take care of yourself. ;)
I owned a 1997 Dodge Stratus. It was probably the biggest piece of crap you could ever buy. It was my first car, I was just excited to own a car until I had that stupid thing in the garage for everything imaginable. It was the worst car EVER... That's why it's in the junk yard where it belonged. BEWARE!!! Unless you want to have 3 jobs just to pay for repairs, no joke.
