"It would be a nice car if you replaced the drive train with a Ford drive train"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Since I owned the 96 Dodge Stratus I have replaced the transmission four times, had it rebuilt once, five total, four under warranty. One I had to pay for at $2,300. I have also had to replace these parts as well, Head gasket, lower

ball joints, stabilizer end links three times, radiator, front brakes every 15,000 miles, power

steering rack, water pump, timing belt,

window switch, door pin switch, and driver side seat cover.

General comments?

This car is meant to be a paper weight.

I feel so bad for someone who owns this car. and if you recently bought try your hardest to get rid of it.

I also want to note Dodge hasn't good willed any thing, No support from Dodge.

I have a 97 stratus and I don't think there is that much of a difference. I haven't had to replace any of that, but I did replace my engine at 70,000 miles, but that's the only problem I've had, and I love my car and I would encourage other people to buy one.

Engine replaced at 70,000 miles and you don't see a problem with that???

I don't care if I did just replace my head gasket, O2 sensors, water pump, and had my rotors rotated in the two years I've had my gold 96 dodge stratus. That is my honey, the only thing I own, if things break on my car, it's my car, and it's my responsibility to take care of her, it's like a child, or a boyfriend. I have never felt closer to anything other than my mother. I think owning a car is a major responsibility. I bought my car for 3,000 with 103,000 miles I couldn't help it. I fell in love. If I had the chance to have a lotus I would only drive it on the weekends and drive my stratus everyday. It's a smooth car, spacious, sporty, and sweet. She has never stranded me on the road, we've always found away out. I drive down a long dirt road constantly, and when it rains I would rather be in my car than a jacked up four wheel drive truck, that's how much trust I have in my car. The dodge stratus is a good car, it's safe, and looks good.

I have a 97 Stratus, and I have mixed feelings about it. I had to replace the engine at 30,000, but that was simply because of a warped head gasket. I think that is a commonly defective part. I replaced the PCV Valve once, and the brakes have squeeked for the past 3 years, even though I've had 4 mechanics tell me there's nothing wrong with them. Recently the auto window switch has started to act up, and the door pin switch isn't working all the time.

The thing about a Stratus is it's a value car. It has little things that don't last as long as they would on a luxury car, but that's why they are a fraction of the cost. All in all the 97 Stratus has been very good to me over the past 7 years. In fact, I recently purchased a 2002 Stratus. That is an awesome car for the money. I highly recommend getting the beefed up V6, and load it up with extras like the sun roof and power seats.
