1996 Dodge Stratus SXT review from Mexico
"It's Stratus or nothing!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Required new radiator, previous owner damaged it.
New A/C Expansion valve (US$50) + new charge of R-134a.
New tires, and US$80 of new brake pads.
I don't like the headlights, they lack power.
Gasoline tank inlet isn't compatible with most Mexican gas stations.
Changed ATF to Mopar ATF+3, with filter (required service for ALL vehicles with 41TE transmission).
Starter solenoid clicks sometimes... needs repair.
General comments?
An excellent performer and daily driver, the Stratus is very comfortable, with an excellent handling, excellent interior space (I'm 6 feet 6 inches tall), great looks and very inexpensive parts and labor on it's scheduled maintenance and repairs. The engine is okay with OK acceleration, but fantastic cruise speed, the transmission does mind reading or something because it gets the exact gear every time.
Gas Mileage is about one peso per kilometer which compares to the 2005 Ford Kia (subcompact). Love this car.
