2001 Dodge Van 2500 Passenger review from North America
"Aesthetically pleasing and comfortable, though at times a challenge to own"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Front end work done due to a bad ball joint at 80,000. I replaced all ball joints and one outer-tie-rod end.
Both oxygen sensors needed replacement around 85,000 miles.
Cylinder 8 spark plug has had a tendency to loosen.
Seats are wearing badly (probably due to fabric seats in a contractor van - it was originally a church-owned vehicle).
Post-catalytic oxygen sensor needed replacement around 130,000 miles.
Recent wheel bearing replacement due to dirt intrusion past the seal.
Tie-rod ends are currently in need of replacement.
General comments?
Despite the numerous issues I've had over the span of my ownership, it's a comfortable, quiet ride. My coworkers have a Ford and Chevy van, and the Dodge is by far the quietest. With adequate tire pressure it tracks well on the interstate and is comfortable at 80 mph.
The rear end can hold more than it says (not that I'd try this...).
The heater can put out more heat than you'll ever need. Even the A/C seems to be adequate.
I do agree with the other reviews on there being too little leg room for the driver and passenger.
It's a little more cramped than the vans put out by Ford and GM.
