1991 Eagle Talon AWD TSi Turbo from North America - Comments

"140HP beats mostly everything on the street, while only being a V-4!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

1996 - New tranny (it was easier to replace the whole thing than to fix 1st and 2nd gears) at 23,000! Dealer paid.

1996 - New clutch and fly-wheel. Dealer paid. Needed a new battery also.

1997 - Air emission sensor went bananas, that was not under warranty at $500.

Seat-belts and transfer case were recalled and replaced. Rear defrost terminal fell off the glass, nobody will take the risk to fix it, either will I.

1998 - Alternator and 2nd battery.

1998 - Brakes, rotors, front axle, bushings, both rear calipers ($500) ceased.

Power steering fluid leak... repaired.

Parking brake tightened 4 times by now.

Horn hasn't worked well since 1996! I also own a 1995 & 1998 Talon, both which have faulty horns. Eagle should send a recall out for that damn horn!

In December, 2000 I had light smoke/steam rising out of my hood while driving. I took it over to JOE COTTON FORD in CAROL STREAM, IL 60188, what a mistake! They told me that I BLEW THE HEAD GASKET ($1000), and I might need to replace THE HEADS, if they were warped ($1000)! I couldn't believe what JOE COTTON FORD said. I wanted a second opinion. I towed my Talon to an independent shop who said had experience with the Talon/Eclipse. After 2 hours, the small shop mechanic called with news of a leak in a heater hose ($100 including labor). He informed me that nothing was wrong with the head gasket nor the heads! Stay away from the dealerships, and go with the small guys, it saved me over $2000! JOE COTTON FORD tried to rip me off, but it didn't happend to this blonde!

General comments?

I love my '91 Talon AWD TSi Turbo, and will keep it forever!

Stay away from dealerships, do it yourself if you can.

With these cars, always get a second opinion because not too many mechanics know how to work on these cars.

I run synthetic oil, and have experienced few repairs with a car that's 10+ years old! It makes a difference in smaller cars.

I'd just like to say that it isn't a V4 which also means it has one head. Second the dealership would have found the hose way before they ripped it apart. Even if they did they would have had to given it to you for free cuz it is their error. One last thing, if it is Talon TSi it has more than 140 hp.

Your car has an inline 4 and 195 horsepower. The normally aspirated 2liter has 140 horsepower.

I must disagree, dealerships always take you for a run, and make up many funny parts that never exist in cars. I must agree stay away from the dealerships.

It has an in-line 4 cylinder not a v4 and don't take an import to a domestic dealer that has no relation at all with your car. Eagle is Mitsubishi and Dodge products so take your vehicle to them if you want better service. Automotive Custom shops and Race shops are actually better than any other service place, they know more about all models of vehicles than you think!!!

You are right the talon is an inline 4 cylinder and is rated for 195hp. Dealerships are called nicknamed the devil because they overcharge for poor service and lack of knowledge... you are better off taking it to a speed shop and try looking up dsm webrings and faq's. I know all this from personal experience. take care of your talon or it will take care of you.. very finicky car with a lot of potential, but expensive and does need to be maintained properly otherwise it will become a nightmare.

Do these come in V6's or just V4's?
