1992 Eagle Talon TSI AWD from North America - Comments

"High performance without the high gas consumption"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Clutch went out at 105,000 miles.

Power windows jump around sometimes and don't operate perfectly smoothly.

Nothing else.

General comments?

The good:

For a 92, the car's in incredible condition and the paint shines like new.

It's very very very fast with minor modifications. ~200 HP stock, spend a few hundred on an exhaust system, increase the turbo boost to 15-16 PSI and you can run with most cars with engines 2.5x the size.

The car handles exceptionally well stock. I modified the suspension and now it drives even better.

Great braking power.

Very cold, perfect A/C even after 9 years on the road.

Everything electrical works like it's brand new.

The all wheel drive makes the car a blast to drive, and keeps it safe in any weather. I've had it in deep snow, heavy rain, etc. with no problems.

The bad:

Back seats are too small.. but it's a sports car so this is expected.

Premium gas (92+ octane) is a must.

Mobil 1 synthetic oil is a must.

You should be careful using synthetic oil in cars that have higher mileage. The synthetic oil flows so well that a small leak with regular oil turns into a big leak with synthetic. I decided to put synthetic oil in my Probe GT (it had 200 000 km) and the oil leaked more. Not a huge difference but its something to be aware of.

Keep regular oil in it if it came with regular oil. If it came with synthetic then use synthetic, or if it is a new rebuild I'd say use synthetic. But only use synthetic when you have all new gaskets other wise you will have problems with leaks.

Please people when you're starting your talon:wait at least a minute or two before you start driving the car, give a chance to your turbo to getting heat and before turning off your engine let it run about a minute for cooling, it will increase your turbo life, a lot of people says that a turbo is always broken, just give it a help a little bit!

Excuse me for my English spelling, I try to do my best!

A word to those declaring synthetics a mistake: One will NEVER have a bad experience with a SUPERIOR lubricant. As long as the motor isn't dropping oil (bad gaskets & seals gets expensive & messy even with petroleum) or USING oil (bad rings, valve seals etc.). If you have had trouble after synthesizing it was because the poor thing was ready to fail anyway!! As for using what came with the car... nonsence... use the best oil and you will have success and a long lived vehicle.Don't forget trans and differential fluids should be synthesized too. Any engine will run cooler, quieter and longer on Synthetics.

I run Mobil 1 in two of my own vehicles. One has 123K miles

it is an Eagle Talon TSI AWD (running 16Lbs Boost) and the other is a Eagle Summit 1.6L Twincam with 225K miles on it.

These get changed at 10K (turbo) and 20K for the Summit.

The Summit gets 6k-7k per Qt.used.The Talon is slightly more consumptive, but it IS a turbo.

For Your Information only... thanks for listening.

If you have used petroleum in your car, then stick with it. changing the oil type (going for petroleum to synthetic or vice-versa) will result in a thick tar-like sludge forming in your cylinders, and gumming up all your valves and seals. this results in a need to completely rebuild the engine after a few thousand kilometers, or super slow acceleration if you don't.
