1992 Ferrari 348 tb review from UK and Ireland
"My Perfect First Ferrari"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I bought it both the internal door handles were broken so I couldn't get out.
The passenger side window switch won't put the window up.
Bit feisty in the wet!
General comments?
Who cares? Not me! I was only worried about getting in (not out) and I beat the vendor down on price as a result!
I have only had mine a month or so. I use it every day and I love it!
There are a few classic 'made in Italy' engineering charms about the car no doubt (plastics used, leather wear, switchgear etc.) but the overall package is fantastic. The handling, performance and styling are all superb. At the end of the day owning and driving one is an event in itself. If you want an easy life, buy a Porsche! Still a great car, but without the passion and extremely common in my neck of the woods.
It will cost me a few extra $$ to service etc. but it was a life time ambition to own a Ferrari and so far I haven't been disappointed. I would suggest for this age of car staying away from main dealers and finding a specialist to help keeping the costs sensible.
I would also try to ensure you get the upgraded 1992 on wards model for the better suspension etc. Easy way to tell which model a car is is to look for the battery. If it's under the bonnet behind the engine it's an old one. If it is hidden in the front right wing it's a newer model.
I think a 348 is a great starter Ferrari as I have driven a 355 and although they are superb I'm not sure I could be trusted with the extra horses as I am only a nipper!
I have to admit one of my favorite things about this car is the way it makes other people (who are into cars) react to it. Nobody ever asked me politely if they could take a picture of my BMW! It is definitely more fun to drive a car that people enjoy seeing!
