1998 Ferrari F355 f1spider review from UK and Ireland
"Fast and beautiful and thankfully no vandals to spoil my enjoyment, every day"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The roof played up twice, the first time the dealer denied there was anything wrong and gave it me back. The second time it had to go on the computer to be fixed.
General comments?
Fast, but not extremely fast, turns heads though. I bought a blue one so as not to be noticed, but on reflection, what the hell, get a red one and be noticed. that is almost the point. its not like you can drive it at 100% the whole time.
Goes round corners pretty well, very stiff despite the convertible and the roof only leaks when it is cats and dogs and only then a little.
F1 box was very good I thought, apart from a bit slow into reverse, but how often do you go into reverse.
Switches in the cabin still had suggestions of fiat to me and do up until the 360 and 575. watch out for pre 96 cars as in the uk they look like they are put together by the trainee and not to be considered lightly. after all, you do spend most of your time in it. it has to be a nice place to be. my porsche boxster S was a much more agreeable place, ergonomically at least, and the stereo is just pants. Get your own speaker upgade. I drove mine every day. you need it.
Overall, not at all painful to own, as long as you buy from a dealer as bits and pieces do go wrong and I suppose they must be super expensive to fix. get them to do it under warranty as you won't have it for too many years/miles. you will want something faster and newer as is human nature. a 550 for me next.
Oh, and get a tubi exhaust. The best part is the noise (a la 360) and you don't really hear it with the standard exhaust (havnt heard a tubi though).
Sounds a bit boy racer, which I can assure you I am not, but to own one is at least 50% about the noise, honestly. You can't drive back and forth through tunnels all day, and I have.!!
