1995 Fiat Cinquecento Sporting from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Go-kart with all weather protection"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Soon after I bought the car the gears became difficult to engage. The problem was a worn/sticky clutch release bearing. The gearbox needed to come off to replace this so replaced whole clutch at same time.

Oil leak in sump - patched up.

Central locking dosen't always work - but you can still lock it manually.

General comments?

I love this car.

It is a typical fiat, but if you have owned one before you know what to expect, i.e. it feels like a tin can and is unreliable.

One problem that this fiat dosen't have is rust. It is fully galvanized making it a lot more attractive than many other cars of this age.

Insurance is cheap. Body colored bumpers, alloy wheels, sports seats, 100mph+ = insurance group 3.

The driving experience is similar to a go Kart - small chunky wheel, stiff suspension, small and noisy. However if you like cars this is a good thing. the handling is amazing, gear change is great and ratios perfectly matched to the nippy engine.

Overall it is nowhere near as practical as my previous car, but it is 10 times as much fun.

Would recommend it to anyone who enjoys driving, but dosen't want to spend lots of money on buying, insuring and filling up a high performance car.

I've just bought one of these for £650 and the insurance is the same as my old 1.1 litre Peugeot 106. The 106 was nice enough to drive, but the little Fiat has really surprised me. It's a proper drivers car with great handling and a responsive, nice sounding engine.

Can't believe a car this much fun cost me so little :)
