1994 Fiat Cinquecento SX review from UK and Ireland

Gear box missing 3rd gear when bought.

Handbrake broken when bought and despite 2 new cables it refused to work.

Speedometer cable snapped 3 times.

Alternator broke.

Starter motor broke.

Head gasket went at 100000.

All 4 suspension bushes replaced at 80000.

Spark plugs constantly needed cleaning (possibly because the head gasket was on its way out)

Rear window washer clogged up.

Driver seat replaced at 96000.

3 lines on rear window heater stopped working.

On board computer needed re-programming.

Coil went meaning car ran on only 3 cylinders.

Over the time I have owned this car every section of the exhaust has needed replacing.

Engine came out of mountings.

Clutch replaced at 80000 (due to general wear and tear)

haemorrhage's oil constantly bunging up rubber hoses that are corroding.

This car was my first car and has taught me many lessons in first hand car maintenance and repairs.

To be fair to the car it had a good beating and was regularly known to belt down the motorway at anything up to 95 miles per hour and 2nd gear was regularly taken to 50mph when first coming onto the motorway.

Was used for daily commute of about 20 miles each way plus about 200 miles a week extra (girlfriend lives 54 miles away)

It was quick despite its small engine, but handled terribly and leaned into corners.

Driver seat is comfortable, but the pedals are close together.

I had many a good memory of this car and despite all of the mentioned problems would definitely own another one, but it would have to be the 1.1 version not 900cc.

Very good mpg even when thrashing it,

a good rust free first car if treated nicely.
