Worst fault is the automatic gearbox sticks in low gear when moving out into roundabouts, junctions etc. you can't get up enough speed so others nearly crash into you. this is an intermittent fault so you never know if its going to do it or not. the red light on dash and very loud beep occurs then goes off on its own. scares you to death. the engine cuts out for no reason, sometime it starts immediately others times a few minutes, once 50 minutes. no good when your at busy lights this all happened from 2nd day of owning it, to 14 days after when I rejected the car. that was august last year, and garage won't accept the rejection not had other problems yet, causes its only been on road 2wks.has anyone else had this problem?
Hello, I see you are having a hard time. But that gearbox can be replaced under warranty surely, if the changes are faulty, or why not just use it in semi-automatic mode, it's not much more hassle, for a more controlled drive. They have taken the auto option off some punto's like the 1.9multijet, because it just didn't work out for them. It's only left on the 1.4 8v now, according to their website. It's not the car you should be rejecting, as they are very good cars. It is just a dimwitted gearbox, that they ought to fix or replace.
I am sorry to here of your problems with automatic gearbox. I agree with the other comment. In Italy we would not consider automatic gearbox from FIAT as they are not used to make them. In this case I would simply take it back to the garage and hassle them until they change it, they are FIAT so they will always try to 'fix' the problems, but you simply need a new gearbox. You will see that out of warranty they will want to change the gearbox except you will have to pay!
