2000 Fiat Multipla ELX JTD review from UK and Ireland
"Excellent idea let down by poor electrics and shocking dealer network"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Throttle potentiometer switch failed on second day we had it. Fixed under warranty (cost un-known). Paid for by supplying dealer, not the actual local Fiat dealer you repaired it.
L/H rear seat belt buckle failed to retract properly, causing the buckle to smash the plastic trim at the seat hinge, when trapped between that and the closing door. - 3 times. Thankfully, the trim only costs £7 to replace.
Drivers seat cloth worn through at 53K miles. Considering good quality seat covers (£200 for set of six).
R/H high beam light flickered and went out (54K miles) cannot identify fault as wiper arms need to be removed (seized) to remove front valance, to access wiring. Fuse & light fittings O.K.
Dealer still cannot identify the correct O-rings for hose connections on A/C refrigerant system to condenser after 2 months "effort". Fiat Customer Department have not replied either.
A far more reliable Local Car Mechanic Business replaced the corroded condenser and sourced the O-rings for over £100 less than the franchised dealer. A refrigeration specialist (rather than the Fiat dealer)
re-charged the system.
"Engine Control Fault" light comes on intermittantly. Car revs from idle and will not pick up cleanly over 4500 revs. Dealer has identified either faulty air flow / mass sensor or faulty throttle potentiometer. The latter costing aprx. £140 to replace. Watch this space.
Electric mirrors only retract intermittently. Drivers one now never retracts electrically.
Dealer charged £120 to re-program a replacement key which operates central locking & alarm. Only they couldn't be bothered to check it actually worked when they had finished, requiring another day in the garage to re-connect the alarm system they had dis-abled.
General comments?
Excellent idea spoiled by bad electrics and complacent Dealer network who don't care once they have your money.
Loads of room with generous boot even with 6 people on board.
Pulls our 5 berth caravan with ease & as someone else has also said, without the need for wider mirrors.
New styled one is uglier in my opinion!. At least the older style has character.
