2003 Fiat Multipla elx review from UK and Ireland
"Great car let down by second rate build quality"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Seat covers worn out at 40K dealer said seats were 'faded' still ongoing issue with fiat.
Clutch judder and failure to engage reverse and forward gears replaced at 34K fault still occurring.
Suspension knocking at 24K anti roll bar link bushes replaced by dealer... fault still there.
Air con faulty at 30K fault resolved by dealer not before being fobbed off by main dealer with 'it's a characteristic of the car' until I stated I'm a mechanic and they soon moved into gear...
Electrical gremlins with alarm going off and not arming - dealer couldn't find fault.
Handbrake sticks in cold weather as water ingresses into handbrake cable and you have to thaw it before you can drive it.
Overall build quality is poor. great on aesthetics, poor on build quality... leave Alfa's alone for the same reason.
fobbed off by an unhelpful dealership on numerous occassions - would not buy fiat again
it beats me how fiat still exist if this is how proud they are about the quality (and I use the term loosely) of their cars
General comments?
Good performance
overall a comfy car and roomy for six passengers
interior a bit lightweight in terms of durability
boot space a bit limited unless you move the back seats forward at the expense of legroom
two glove boxes is a bit handy although a bit small
dash a bit wacky, but functional
engine not a refined as other marques, but faults aside has been a good performer during our ownership.
