All of this work was carried out under warranty, but courtesy cars could not be provided at such short notice. The 3 year AA/Fiat warranty was useless as they misdiagnosed the faults, refused to provide a courtesy car and would not tow us to a garage on a Monday after the initial tow on a Saturday (NB when the garages were all closed!)
I had a 2000 Punto previously for a few months. This was in the garage for almost half of the time that I owned it. The Fiat dealership were hopeless, every repair was faulty or worse when I collected the car. I was assured this was unusual and got a good deal on the Go1 hence my big mistake in buying another one.
Interesting about the ECU fault. I have a 1.216v Punto, and after 2000km the engine suffered this failure, and is currently at the garage waiting to be fixed. Unfortunately it happened on Saturday night 300km from my home, and had to be towed to a (closed) dealer. I wonder how common it is for the ECU to fail in this way?
It is a very common problem with the ecu on fiat punto's (new shape).I have had 3 punto's and everyone has had the ecu replaced in the first six months. No wonder fiat are in financial trouble.
I have a Punto Sporting for almost 2 years now and still haven't got a problem to report, I also know lots of people that own puntos (mk1 & mk2) nad they also didn't needed to change their ECU. Must be a UK problem. By the way I'm in Portugal.

Well, I've currently had my Punto 'Go' (1200 8V) 10 months, and not a single fault so far. I can hardly say I'm not pleased with my particular vehicle, but must admit, I'm getting pretty worried given all the stuff I've read on this web site!! Driving with fingers permanently crossed from now on!!
BTW, if anyone would like to discuss any particular aspect of their Punto 'Go' (or similar model) with me, please write to me at: m.armitage@sheffield.ac.uk.
It's not so bad (perf. 0/10???)
