1994 Fiat Punto SX review from UK and Ireland
"Fab attractive little devil"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Number Plate light failed.
Passenger front indicator light failed.
Small amount of rust by the boot lock.
Gearbox mount gone due to wear and tear so knocks when you change gear sometimes, but getting repaired today! £100.
Seized handbrake cable.
Rear brake shoes crumbled, £15 to replace.
Overheating, replaced pipe £14, shoved some rad-weld in, no problems for over a month.
Driveshaft popped out when turning due to a broken clip, cost 51p + £10 for my mate to fit it.
General comments?
Even though I've encoutered the niggly little problems above I still love this car, when looking to get a small car after I got rid of my fuel guzzling XR2i I came accross this little baby, I was suprised how lively it was for such a high mileage car, all that was needed to get through the MoT was a number plate light. It aways starts first time with the mimimum of effort, once the glow plugs go out its just a flick of the key.
The car came with factory side skirts and I had a new set of crystal alloys I had from another punto so it looked quite sporty. Might get it lowered next, only by 40mm.
Tha cabin is in excellent condition and all the switch gear works, no rips or sign of wear on the seats and the plastic is all tidy and neat, no sign of any annoying loose switches or fixings as of yet!
For long journeys it's a pleasure, she'll cruise fine at 80mph, mines a rare PAS model so it also handles well especially with the wider alloys, I've had over 100MPH on the motorway so it must mean the engine is still very much alive!
The standard hifi and speakers were terrible, replaced with parcel shelf 6 by 9s, a jvc cd player and upgraded sony speakers in the front with a high power sony amp in the boot, that soon sorted the problem.
Shes still good for the amount of miles its clocked up, don't know when its going to pack up, but its still going strong, I will need the front discs and pads replaced within the next couple of months and also a new handbrake cable, but apart from that it should last, all in all a great little rocket! Would definetly buy another!
