What things have gone wrong with the car?

Wiper Motor Judder.

General comments?

Punto's are very easy to work on so find a good private mechanic and avoid Fiat dealer rip off prices. parts are plentiful in most high street auto stores.

If your car has intermittent or juddery wipers get it back to a Fiat main dealer and get them to sort it for you.

It is a very common problem caused by the factory using the incorrect grease in the wiper motor assy. The grease conducts electricty and causes an arcing affect. The dealer simply replaces the grease with the correct type ( non conductive ) and hey presto problem solved. Don't let them fob you off this is a known manufacturing problem.

I have had a fiat punto before with no problems but the latest model I bought in 2002 had to have the whole windscreen wiper mechanism replaced at 17000mls. The push rods that drive the mechanism seem to be poorly designed and it seems to be more than a grease problem. My friend's car has just packed in too in the same way and it can be a life threatening problem on a long motorway journey on a very rainy night. I never had a windscreen wiper problem on any car I ever had until this one and I used to keep my cars up to 8 and 10 years. I think fiat have a cheap design here that needs fixing to retain their reputation.
