1999 Fiat Punto Sporting review from UK and Ireland

Well the clutch went at 25000 miles which is very very poor. The suspension also creeks heavily when I go over hills or dents. The fuel management system is very tempremental also. That little annoying light which sends ur heart racing if it stays on can be very worrying cos repairs can start from £10 and rise 2 £1000. I seem to go through an amazing amount of brake pads to, I'm not a boy racer so I can't understand why. The sporting should certainly come with air con, as its conisdered to be one of the better Puntos.

The car is very quick and looks great. Lets face it the Italians don't normally get it wrong when it comes to styling. It looks great inside also, some of the earlier Punots have an awful green trim. Most models after 98 look stunning inside with a shiny grey interior. The signature Sporting seats also look dead cool, as it sets itself apart from other Puntos. 17s can also go on without much trouble, expect rolling of the arches if you decide to fit 17s to the selecta, or the ealrier models. I was very upset when my clutch went at only 25000, mechanics agree that Puntos are notorious for failing clutch and gearboxes. If ya Punto clutch ever goes, Mr Clutch is all you need, only £170.00 for a new clutch with 2 years warranty. One massive problem is the engine performance through gear changes. The engine works very very very hard, as it rarley drops below 4000 rpm even at 60mph. The sporting never over heats and all the bits and bobs work great inside. The front fogs lights also look dead cool.
