Also have the problem with brakes binding on the front of our fiat scudo, how do you adjust the linkage to the servo to solve the problem?
Having similar probs with 03 scudo changed disc calipers mastercyl vac pump non return valve still having instances of good brake then solid pedal no brake any ideas thanx.
Hi.
I have a Citroen Dispatch (57 plate) and last week the cam belt snapped. I have now been advised by my local dealer that the fuel pump seized but that they have no idea why. Rather than try to investigate why and also to assess whether any further damage has been done to the engine they have sent a fuel sample to France and not worked on the van for 4 working days (7 my working days) and seem in no hurry to resolve the problem.
Has this happened to anyone else and if so what was the cause?
Thanks.

Please help me!! I have a Fiat Scudo 1999 Combinato which has continuously broken my heart. I've had the same problem that has been described in these pages re braking system, or lack there of. It consists of an intermittent hard brake pedal with the drivers side front wheel almost melting in the process. To date we have changed calipers, pads, brake servo, and adjusted the linkage to the servo as described in the last few enteries-all with a small positive effect but not solving the problem. The brakes were binding solid but this has all but gone but there is still a small amount of binding on the drivers front. At speed the steering wheel shakes and the brake pedal shakes under-foot but if you pull over and rev the be-jasus out of the engine and pump the brake pedal it comes right for a while. Its wrecking my head (and my mechanics) and I can't afford to keep pumping money into it.
Whats the next step?? Vacuum pump? Master cylinder? or cliff?!
I once had an old BMW motorbike upon which one of the rubber fexi hoses going to the caliper had perished inside. This made them into a sort of non-return valve which slowly locked on the front brake and blued the disc.
If I ever have a brake problem again, this would be the first thing I'd change, as they looked perfect from the outside.
Thanks for the thought but I've given up and flicked it off to a mechanic who seems confident that hes got the problem sorted! Now I'm gonna do what I should have right from the beginning and get the most reliable and hassle free van in the world! A Toyota Hiace!!

Hi, I have just bought a (51) plate Scudo... I noticed that my speedo wasn't working. I have checked fuses and they all look OK... has any one else had this problem, and if so how was it rectified?...
Thanks, Chris.
I have a 53 plate Fiat Scudo 1.9D. 66,000 miles. I've owned it a year. About 2 months ago it wouldn't start. The starter motor was turning the engine, but not getting it going. I tried jump leads with no success so called out the AA who got it started.
After a few days driving with no problems, the fault recurred. It's intermittent and totally unpredictable (sometimes won't start when the engine is warm, or will start when it's cold). When it does start, it drives as normal.
My mechanic was a bit mystified, but noticed the battery was not maintaining a full charge, plus the starter motor was a bit slow. He replaced the battery and it ran again for a few more days. But again the fault recurred. This time he replaced glow plugs & fuel pump solenoid shut off valve. The engine management light was intermittently coming on, but a computer diagnostic came up with nothing.
After a few days, the fault recurred.
So I took it to Fiat who charged almost £80 for a diagnostic, and came back telling me it needed a new starter motor and new battery (despite the brand new battery).
Needless to say, after getting my mechanic to fit a new starter motor (at half Fiat's price), the fault recurred.
It's now back at Fiat who tell me it might be a break in the engine wiring limb.
Has anyone else had similar problems with a Scudo van?
I too have a 2001 Fiat Scudo which I have owned from new, the speedo on mine went out a few weeks ago. All the fuses are again OK and everything in this area, dash lights etc are working. I would appreciate some help on this as well. John (Oxford)

I'm also working on a Fiat Scudo with brake problems. Offside front brake binding on and destroying the pads. I tried to push the caliper piston back with no joy. So I clamped off the flexy hose, then loosed off the bleed nipple and the piston went back with no effort. This must be down to the flexy hose being swelled up inside?
With regards comment 2nd oct 2008 12.48.
I had same problem for 2 years, spent £300 in garage then cured it myself. It was a contaminated contact in start relay.
This is to the guy with the starting problems

I had the same problem with my Scudo. It turned out to be the fuel stop solenoid, which is part of the anti theft system, as well as other things. The garage gave me the option to replace the whole unit for £400 or cut it free (and I mean with angle grinders cuz it's well protected against theft) and put a universal 1 in for about £30. Guess which I went for! Worked fine ever since, although now it is easier to steal.
I realize your post is old now, but it took months for them to sort my van and 3 different garages.
Regards.
Shane.

Hi, I'm having problems with my Fiat Scudo 1.9 van, it just cut out on me this morning. I took the air filter off, then it started a bit after I've just replaced the air filter and diesel filter, and added some Red X. It started, went round the block, left it running for about 5 minutes, then it just cut out. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks, Chris.
Hi all!
I have a Scudo van 76000 miles, 51 plate. My problems started after a reasonably long journey of roughly 30 miles roughly a year ago.
As I came off the motorway and started slowing, the van started to sound like a complete bag of bolts and really rough. I pulled over, turned off the engine and re started it and the noise stopped.
The only thing I can describe it as is, "it's like a petrol car pinking in the old days with a very loud clattering noise yet it does not run on after turning ignition off".
It loses power when the noise starts, and when the revs are increased it goes away. It was only intermittent, but now has become more frequent ie. on every trip.
When starting the van and at low revs the noise happens a lot. Traveling in excess of 30mph it completely goes away.
It also idles erratically at times but not permanently.
When the van is warm after a long run it is very sluggish to start and the battery struggles to turn the engine over. When cold it starts first turn like new.
Help!!! Please.
Hi.
Thanks for your reply. If the engine was ruined, surely it would not run perfectly one moment and then roughly the next.
It has only been driven with care loaded or unloaded. The noise occurred after an unloaded trip, and the van only gets loaded less than once a week and never gets driven over 80mph. Any other comments would be most welcome.
