Clutch wore out at 63,000 miles.
Rear wind screen wiper motor seized up.
Car stalls intermittently when hot - needed new temperature sensors and throttle control.
Oil leaks from the rocker gasket and in the injection system.
Comfortable, spacious car.
However very poor electrics and extremely poor running at lower revs.
Major headache having to repair it constantly when I only bought it under twelve months ago.
I have a 1989 Tipo Diesel with 199,600 miles on the clock. ALWAYS starts first time, never cuts out - hot or cold. We are so pleased that my wife bought a new Fiat Marea 1.6 ELX and she is delighted with it and only one problem - rear shocks replaced under warranty.
I've got Fiat Tipo 1.6 DGT. Even though it was in very bad condition when I bought it, it never let me down and now I've repaired it back to how it should have been, it has never let me down.
I love Fiats, I had an Uno 45 before this one and that thing surprised me as well (it did 100 mph on a 903cc engine and a 4 speed box, and it had 85000).
Don't slag off Fiat.
As with all cars it's most important that you thoroughly check any prospective purchase. I note from your message that the vehicle had already covered 59k miles at the time you purchased it, whilst this is not a great distance by modern standards, this would give an unsympathetic owner plenty of scope to cause premature wear to any car. I might humbly suggest that there may have been several warning signs that you missed whilst surveying the vehicle prior to purchase.

I am on my second fiat tipo 1st 1.4 carb,2nd 1.4 injection.
I managed 100000 from tipo 1 and bought tipo 2 with 43000 miles on her. Brakes on both have been a problen, mostly rear drums for m.o.t.s, No major work carried out on either yet,but injectors now playing up on 2nd tipo. A very cheap and cheerful car. BUY WITH LOW AS POSSIBLE MILES AND SERVICE REGULARLY (oil 6000 miles) AND TIPO'S WILL RUN FOREVER.
