1991 Fiat Tipo DGT SX review from UK and Ireland

As a student on a placement, I needed a car. Looked at several, the usual fiestas escorts etc. But as soon as I got in the tipo, I loved it!

When I bought it, I knew the clutch and gear box would need changing. This cost £300.

Also digital dashboard didn't work when I got it. Fixed it meself.

Only major annoyance is that the exhaust manifold/gasket thing keeps snappin.. maybe due to a bust mounting. Fortunately my dad works for ATS, cos I've gone through 2 complete exhausts, 2 mid boxes, 3 front pipes and a back box in a year!

Other problem... when driving say at 70 mph (don't normally do this round town) the engine seems to 'choke' as it splutters. No idea what the problem is. It just loses acceleration (unless I put my foot to the floor). If I pull over its really hard to rev it (again unless I put me foot down) Someone suggested its the coil... Can't see how tho!

I love this car... and spend anything on it just to keep it running. It drinks petrol for fun when you thrash it. Maybe its cos of my childish antics of racing novas off the traffic lights. I'll never grow up.

Like ppl have said before, handles like a go kart... except with four people. In which case it goes like a bouncey castle.

Huge inside... plenty of leg room. Good visibility as the drivers seat is height adjustable. Power steering still requires effort so you'd probably need to be built like arnie to steer a non powered car.

But with a digital dashboard, your bound to pull ;)
