"Cheap and cheerful motoring"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

There seems to be an intermittant problem with the idling of this car when the engine is cold and hot. The car seems to stall out and it is running very rich resulting in poor fuel comsumption.

Tacky plastic trim which easily breaks.

The speedometer has stopped working.

Unstable ride when the car is not loaded up.

Leaky sunroof after a shower of rain, as well as arond the door seals.

Useless rust protection especially around the doors and arch's.

General comments?

This car is great fun to drive.

For a 1 litre car it's actually quite nippy once you get the rev's up.

However this car suffers with terrible lag after around 4000 rpm's which is when you most need extra power for motorway joining.

Very comfy seats good for long distance journeys as well as plenty of headroom for tall people.

Although I would liked to have seen better trim and features on this car such as a clock and a fag lighter, very sparse.

Although what do you expect for a cheap car such as this.

Very interesting point about the uneven idle, rich running and stall out.

I have just bought one and it is doing exactly the same thing, did you ever cure yours or find out what was causing it?

My local fiat dealer is currently baffled!

I bought Fiat UNO Hobby recently and I should tell you that for such a price, what else can you expect from this small car? It's just for driving small distances. Parts are cheap and petrol consumption is reasonable. I like it. - Khushroo.

Not sure how the fuel injection system is set up on later Unos, but you may find that you have a blown oxygen sensor.

This will fail the MOT incidentally, because it will flunk emissions. I don't know if they check the speedometer at the MOT, but it's illegal to use a car on the road without a working speedo.

Best car I've ever driven. I won't buy anything else; Fiat rules.

Has its ups and downs.

About high fuel consumption problems. Check:

- vacuum advance regulator (near distributor cap, it causes rough idling and higher fuel consumption, it's very likely to fail on this car every 3 years, you can check it very simply. With engine running disconnect vacuum hose, if the revs drop and engine starts to work rough, then it's OK, if disconnecting makes no difference then it's broken)

- check lambda sensor

- thermostat (if it's constantly open, then engine doesn't heat up)

I love this car. It's very reliable, cheap to run, it has low fuel consumption and it's very simple to service at home.

I got a fiat uno hobby had it for 2 year.

It had new front brake and back brake, new back box and midde pipe but I love the car because it is good on fuel I can get 50mpg out of the 1.0 litre engine.

The sunroof leaks in water after heavy rain.
