1989 Ford Bronco XLT review from North America

"I love my bronco"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I bought the car in early 2002, I started to rebuild the front end. I replaced the ball joints, C.V. joints, tie rods, rebuilt the front differential, and put new radius arm bushings in. I finished it about a week before I went hunting, so when we took it on my hunting trip, in my first 80 miles of owning the car, something went majorly wrong, the oil pump went out. So, we got a ride out, because we were off-roading, and when we got it home, it sat on the side of the house for about a year. Then we started working on it over Easter break 2004. We pulled the engine, and completely rebuilt it. We had the cylnders bored out from a 351 Winsor to a 384. We put in new pistons and rings, new push rods, valves, put completely new heads on it, new injectors, new cam shaft, new crank shaft, new rod and main bearings, new water pump, new starter solenoid, new battery, new tensioner, new headers, new starter, new alternator and I think I'm leaving some stuff out, but you get the idea.

So we have been driving it for about 100 miles now, on the new engine, and the transmission is leaking, but it is my fault because I forgot to put an o-ring on the filler tube. There is a little water leak in the back of the engine, which is easy to fix, but I'm just tired of working on it.

General comments?

The car is a gas hog! It gets about ten miles to the gallon. The transmission dose not have on overdrive, so at 70 mph, the engine is at about 3000 R.P.M.'s, a little high. Inside the cab is a little loud, but is well made up for it by the comfortable seats and roomy cab. Even the back seats are comfortable, when you fold the back seat down, you have enough room to haul a 4x6 peace of ply-wood with the rear window down.
