1994 Ford Bronco XLT from North America - Comments

"What ford needs to aim for in their new vehicles"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The transmission fluid had never been changed, so it was full of sludge.

This caused 2 problems:

hard shifting, which in turn chewed up the rear end and slamming into gear that would rock the car. the first time it went into the dealer, they replaced the whole rear end at a price of $1700. it stopped it for a while, then it came back. the ford dealership then flushed the transmission, and replaced the rear end again, but this time they didn't charge me for the rear end, only the flushing.

Has run fine since.

Air bag warning flashing intermittently, but for some reason stopped?

Rear power window is sticky and sometimes doesn't roll down, like that with ALL bronco's.

Small rip in the back leather seat caused by me

reliable as any ford was back then!!! which is VERY RELIABLE, and I'm sorry to say that you will never find this in new fords.

General comments?

This is by far the nicest vehicle I have ever owned. it is an XLT in electric red, with the premuim alloy wheels, upgraded suspension with heavy duty shocks, power everything, including seats, which I hear is rare.

We've driven it to montana many times and it has performed admirably. even with it stuffed with camping gear and 3 people, the power was very re-assuring and passed quite nicely.

The leather seats could use more bolstering for off-roading, but they are soft and comfy.

And speaking of off-roading...it's a BEAST!

I have yet to get stuck I it, and I have been in 2 feet deep mud, and I powered through it nicely. also does well in ice. its fun to tow people out of ruts and stuff.

The fuel consumption isn't all that bad, really. 21 on the highway, but (uck) 13 in town. I don't find this bad for a large SUV like this.

Its such an easy vehicle to live with, but it is easy to speed because its so smooth.

These things are built like tanks, and this one will run forever!

These peices of crap are ugly and worst of all there a FORD!!!

I would be afraid to take it 100 feet on the road cause it would probably blow up on me.

Go buy a REAL suv like a toyota.

What are you talking about?! The Bronco is one of the best SUV's of the 90's! And exactly what 'real' SUV's does Toy-ota make? The Highlander? (car chassis), RAV-4? (haha, real SUV give me a break!). The only Toyotas that come even close to being an SUV is the Sequoia which has brake problems and is underpowered, the 4-runner which is just downright ugly, and the land cruiser, which is outdated and way overpriced. The best SUV's from the early 90's were the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and the Bronco.

Yeah, they may have been OK when they were new, but now they fall apart. Notice how there aren't that many around, but you can look anywhere and still see old 4-runners and land cruisers running strong at 300,000 miles. get over it, ford sucks and toyota is the best auto maker in the world. common sense.

Mr. Toy Truck.

When yours reaches 330,000 miles (starts/stops on first rotation; doesn't leak a drop of oil, all major components are original{engine, tranny, xfercase, rear end, spindles}) and I'll tow you when you need help. With comments like yours, it isn't too far off.

These full-sized Broncos, along with the full-sized Chevy Blazer (like the K-5) and the Ramcharger, were the last of the real 4x4 trucks. Honestly, I see more of them off-road (where it counts, not on the road) than any Toyotas. I've seen a few old Toyota Range Rovers around, but if you go onto the jeep trails in Colorado, you'll see old Dodge Ramchargers, Ford Broncos, and International Scouts. I don't recall ever seeing a single Toyota of any kind off the pavement in the years that I lived there.

I own a 94 Eddie Bauer Bronco with a 5.8L & love the thing! PLENTY of power, A lot of room and handles great. In years past I've had an 82 & an 85 (Both XLT's). Other than the factory carb. (I think it was called a "Variable Venture carb.") on the 82, I was extremely happy with them too.

Gotta admit though... You want a quiet, reliable grocery getter with good re-sale, it's 4-Runner all day long. You want to go off road or camping with power & room, it's DEFINITELY a BRONCO!!!

Besides... One looks / works well with a lift and 35" mudders, the other... a bug shield and baby seats.

LOL - that would describe ownership of a Bronco: a "variable venture" -- you takes your chances.

Yeah...Ya do "Takes Your Chances" with a Bronco, but ya gotta remember, they haven't made the things for 12-13 years. ANYTHING that age comes with Chances... Yes even a Toyota or Honda.

Reliability of an older truck is EXTREMELY dependent on how it was taken care of in the past. These were as reliable as any other full size SUV from the Mid-90's...More so than most depending on the engine/Trans set up ya got.
