The valve cover gaskets are bad.
Valves seem to knock.
Paint is faded.
Very comfortable seats.
Great car, handles great.
I love it.
Agree 100%. 1990 Bronco II w/198,000 miles, 20+ mile per gallon, NO oil use, pull a 2,500lb boat, use it on the beach and as a daily driver. Will keep it even when I have to have the engine rebuilt.
Service oil & filter every 3,00o miles, transmission every two years, radiator flush every year. Engine is bullet proof.
Only abnormal repair was replaced the water pump at 175,000 miles and will need to replace a power steering pump due to very slow leak.
Had the air conditioner converted to R134.
BEST vehicle I have ever owned!
If something goes wrong with the 1990 Bronco II's (xlt) transmission, trash it for a new one. Simply repair of any seals won't work! Or junk the sucker, because getting a new transmission can get costly!
Definitely agree with the comment on the transmission.. but even a full replacement is costly due to it having to be done 3 times in one year.
Power steering pump gone..
AC has been out since about 130,000 miles...
Very unhappy with everything except the engine.. It has been tough through all 173,000 miles..
Bought my B2 in July 01 with a drivable but very noisy 5-speed. I've put 8,000 hard miles on it since then. Through mud and water both deeper than I needed to be in at times. And I have put no money into the truck besides oil changes.
Great vehicle for everyday use. The 2.9L engine is from the same engine family as the 2.6, 2.8, and the 4.0L. That engine will never let you down as long as you change the fluids and filters on a regular basis.
Watch out for the transmission though... they don't seem to like heavy weight items. The manuals seem to last longer than the autos... but clutch replacements in between.
