In the past 6 months: new shift rod, new dipstick holder (rusted off), new thermostat.
MPG = 14 (on 89 octane)
Good looking car, I love the way it handles (great for a truck). Incredible off-road capabilities (this was when they actually built trucks to go off-road, instead of toting around the kids and the family dog).
Service (Scarsdale Ford Service) is very bad. Nothing like Honda dealer service, where they are friendly, accomodating, and they do the job fast, well, efficiently, and with great value.
Don't buy a one of these used unless you want to put about 500-1000 dollars in it a year to keep it running (assuming you take care of the body & engine) and that's only on repairs.
Otherwise, it's the perfect car for me and the interior is comfortable and spacious for a small, light truck.
$1000? What are you doing, Gold plating it?
Hey, if you're still taking it to a Ford Dealership for service, plan to get abused.
If you live in NY, that $1000 is small compared to the insurance for a new car, not to mention the lost interest/gains on the money you could have had put in investments, but instead bought a new car.
Let's face it, it's an '88 you're driving. Cars wear out and things break. Bought my pop a 2002 Escape and spent over $1200 the first year - I won't even get into the lost days of work or the cost of my time.
Ride a bike - take the bus or train - it's much cheaper.
