1987 Ford Bronco II XLT review from North America

"The best kept off-road secret in the world"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Almost twenty years old and it's starting to show.

The electrical system needed some help.

Not a lot of hip room in the front seats.

General comments?

I have recently become the proud owner of an 87 XLT Bronco 2, I have wanted a Bronco since I was 8 years old, and finally I have found her. After a laundry list of other vehicles I have settled down with an 04 explorer and the ultimate driving machine, my Bronco. She is almost 20 and a little rough around the edges, but none the less, she can out do that big, smart and young explorer any day of the week. I got her at 95k (2 months ago) a new battery, alternator and a new set of tires was all she needed, now she runs like showroom queen, although she doesn't look like it.

Broncos are not too common where I am and her and I get a lot of looks on the street, and in the mud hole. One day at the local mud pit we found ourselves pitted against a new Nissan Frontier. After some trash talking aimed at my Bronco was over a friendly competition ensued, gallon upon gallon of mud and an angry V6 later, the result;a little bleep bleep Bronco pulling a sad sack Nissan out of the hole with his own tow chains. Victory was ours and as we proudly rumbled to the top of the hill we were stopped by our new found Nissan driving Bronco enthusiast, and he humbly commented..."small and bit rough, but she sure packs a punch". And so her name was given; Scrappy Doo.

As you can see my bronco gives me great joy and I hope that all Bronco lovers find the same peace that mine has given me. As long as there are Broncos on the great American highway there will always be someone climbing a mountain or running down a river trail or slinging mud.
