1985 Ford Capri Injection Special from UK and Ireland - Comments

"A classic performer"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

There have only been a couple of things that have been a problem. The radiator decided to give up the ghost, and the front end has become a little rusty. Mind you, what do you expect from a sixteen-odd year old car!

General comments?

With the LSD the car does not lose its back end like the lower spec models.

The engine may not have the 0-60 times of modern performance cars, but it isn't far off.

I own a 2.8 special with kent cam and 6 port swaymar heads among its many mods. As regards keeping up with modern performance cars, a vectra GSi driver thought he'd leave my old capri at the traffic lights. Matched him up to 70 mph when he suddenly backed off. Perhaps the thought of a 20 year old Ford showing him up was to much. Just one of my capri's many victims. Cars off the road for 6 months of the year, but for 6 months in summer it's a blast!

The last I saw of the other swaymar capri was when it was featured in fast ford magazine a few years back. Mine is a standard bodied capri injection special with the six port heads on, not the blue x-pack arched vehicle you are asking about. The fast ford magazine featured this vehicle some years back with a white german market only 2.8i Zakspeed turbo, both owned by the same man. Capri club international might know of the whereabouts of the other swaymar car. My car has around the 170 to 190 bhp mark and goes like stink so the original swaymar must be huge fun with around 300 bhp. I presume the second car was to the same specification.

Is the car still running fuel injection with 260 bhp or fitted with carbs e.g. triple downdraught webers. Don't think bosch K-jetronic on my car would be capable of providing enough fuel, even at 3.2 litres for 260 bhp. Have heard of various mods such as fitting a BMW metering head, or getting seventh injector (normally used for rich mixture on start up) to provide more fuel at high revs. Have read that Injection system runs lean at high revs on 2.8 capri which may explain why mine pops and bangs on over run, although don't think an exhaust system with just one janspeed sized silencer on each bank helps, sounds great though!

Hi, it runs the same metering unit as a 2.8. The Swaymar still uses the same distributor as well.

There was really only one 3.2 turbo Capri made and I owned the car for about seven years and I had all the work done by Malcolm and David at Swaymar. It was a very very quick car that could corner and stop. I changed everything from the originalprototype 3.2 engine (It went into a one off TVR that was shown I believe in 87 at Earls Court and I believe still exists in the Birmingham area.) /gearbox, suspension, axle to the brakes were all renewed. I have a lot of photos of the car and I think the video of the car at Fords track, when I was invited to the top gear show, We burned out the clutch and returned the engine to carbs for the Brighton Sprint. we were quick, but suffered fuel starvation.
