My first problem was only a head light switch recall.
Secondly, there was a recall on the brakes.
Third recall was the heater blower resistor.
My check engine light repeatedly comes on.
The fuel pump has been replaced.
The thermostat and mass air-flow sensor has been replaced.
The timing belt and idler have been replaced.
My car now idles low.
I am the sole owner of my Contour. I have driven it for five years and put only 58,800 miles on it. The ford service has run out of parts to replace, so now they would like me to pay for a transmission.
Ever since they put on a new timing belt, my car has idled low. After two weeks, Ford cannot find the problem. So
now it could be the transmission.
In five months, my car has had $1000.00 worth of new parts. Unfortunately, it does not run properly now. I refuse to spend any more money on a Ford.
This was my second Ford Contour, but I didn't own the first one long enough to
learn my lesson. I have learned it now.
POS indeed - My daughters - brakes calipers, pads constantly, rotors, uneven wear etc, 3 water pumps, alternator, transmission, 3 elect windows, now using water and oil in water - GREAT CAR!!!
I was going to buy a 1997 Ford Contour for 1800 tomorrow, but after reading the comments here, I think I shall pass. It is such a beautiful car, and I really wanted it. I drive now an 81 Olds Cutlass, which hasn't really given me any problems in the 14 years I've owned the car, just things like brakes, the fuel pump went out, but not anything major like I've read about here.
Thank you for having a web site like this where people can post and research their car before being out a lot of money and then find out their car they just bought is junk.
I will keep looking for a car.
