The Ford Crown Victoria is probably one of the best most reliable cars ever built. You do realize you bought a POLICE CAR right? Those cars idle for hours a day, ramped off curbs, and beat into the ground. You better give that car some credit that IT STILL RUNS.
If you have the Police Interceptor car package, the car was likely a police car. I've never known a police car to be treated well. I am not surprised the engine and transmission would go out. I know the Crown Victoria / Grand Marquis is a good series of cars, because I ride to the airport in them all the time and observe that they have 300-400+ thousand miles on the original engines. Even the Crown Victoria police cars in my town (where I am associated with the police department) all have 200K+ miles, acquired from being beat on 24 hours a day, and are still running well. I feel sorry you are having the problems you mentioned, but honestly think you just got a bad one.
MY neighbor bought one new (civilian) its just an option anyone could order.
I have to agree to the previous comment, the most I have ever seen on a Crown Victoria would be 619K miles. You got a bad one.
Who is Mario?
I have owned a 95 Towncar with the 4.6 V8. The car showed 267K miles when I sold it. It ran awesome and used a quart of oil in 3 months.
I now own a 2000 CVPI with 140K miles that runs great. The engine knock could be worn timing chain guides. Could be a spark knock from the misfire.
I drive mine everyday. I bought this car with 102k. I received complete service records since car was purchased new by a police department.
The 4.6 V8 is a great bullet proof engine. I think you are just lacking the mechanical knowledge to correct the problems that started in the beginning, leading to the current failure of the engine. The 4.6 V8 must be maintained regularly.
