1992 Ford Crown Victoria LX review from North America
"Luxury at a fire-sale price"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Automatic climate control repeatedly failed until the dealer finally figured out what was causing it.
Brakes tend to shudder when they begin to show any kind of wear.
Rear suspension had a broken part that caused the rear end to sway too much.
Interior has so many squeaks and rattles that I've lost count.
General comments?
The 4.6L V8 engine is smooth, quiet and delivers ample power for most situations. The 4-speed automatic is shifts almost imperceptibly.
The brakes are super-strong, hauling this leviathan down from speed with alacrity. Handling is not the car's strong suit, hampered even further by the limp power steering. Granny will love it, though.
The interior is large and comfortable, though not as vast as the long wheelbase suggests. Credit the circa-1979 chassis for the wasted space.
Overall, it's a great car. Comfortable, stylish and potent. It just needs to be more refined with higher quality materials to be a great car.
