1995 Ford Crown Victoria P71/Police Interceptor review from North America

"As fast as a Mustang, as rugged as a Hummer, and can tow 5000 pounds"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Lot's of parts in the front suspension- pitman arm, idler arm, inner & outter tie rod ends, one upper ball joint...

Bad coil pack around 89k.

Oxygen sensors @ 87k and 105k.

Tranny was rebuilt before buying the car.

Other routine maintenance...

General comments?

Overall, this has been a good car.

The front suspension might as well of been rebuilt by now, but it is an ex-police car.

Handling is decent for being a 4,000lB car. It's kind of like driving a very low-sitting truck.

The car isn't slow, it isn't fast, it's quick. There is a difference. It's quick for it's size. The V8 is relentless. It won't give up until you want it to. It's like riding on a big, fast moving couch when you stomp the gas. Smooth all the way up to the top end.

Brakes could definitely use some help. Make sure you buy high quality brake pads when they do go out, otherwise stopping the car is like trying to stop an elephant on roller-skates. There is a "98 and up" brake upgrade that you can do for around $300 in parts if you need better braking. You can find info on this on crownvic.net.

The interior is very comfortable.

Working under the hood is hard because the 4.6L makes for cramped conditions.

The car feels safe... much rather drive it than my previous car if I knew I was going to be in an accident ;-)

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.
