1991 Ford Crown Victoria LTD review from North America

"Fastest car I have ever owned and handled like a dream"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Alternator went at about 75,000. It only has a five digit odometer, but I do not believe it rolled over. I blew the engine after playing with it too much.

General comments?

This car was incredible when I owned it. The car only had 155 horsepower, but the 5.0 liter engine pushed out about 130 miles an hour. I'm sure I could have gotten it up higher, but you only have so much straight road in Massachusetts, and this car is a boat, so it takes a little while to top out.

This car was used by the Ipswich town police so it had the 140 mile per hour certified calibration speedometer, which by itself shows it is a quick car.

I saw "The Fast And The Furious" and was disgusted with the imported cars they had topping out at 140. They put about ten thousand dollars into their engines, and did that with nitrous oxide, and I just laughed and remembered my Vic just about did that stock from the factory.

I would recommend this to any beginning driver. I would challenge any person to drive this car and say they do not like it. Any Teen would claim this car to be a great ride.

Its comfort is what really drew me to it. I actually fell asleep at the wheel it was so comfortable. Its cloth interior makes 4 hour drives to Vermont seem like a Sunday cruise. Speaking of cruise, the quick ratio steering, which makes it feel like you aren't even touching the steering wheel, and the excellent responsive cruise control, make it seem like you aren't even driving. I am not exaggerating at all. This is and will probably always be the most comfortable car you will drive.

Being a typical teen, I put a great sound system in this beast of a car. This sound system only included about 400 watts, but because of the quality, the wattage doesn't matter too much. I had two Rockford sub-woofers in the trunk, and another thing I love about the car is that the sound carried so well. The trunk is large enough to fit about 4 or 5 people in it, so the sound was incredible.

I also love speed, so sawed off my mufflers and the tone and resonance was incredible. The only problem was the back-pressure was so decreased that the engine began to backfire and the lifters in the engine started to go. I never payed attention to this, but this eventually became so bad that on one day, while taking one of those 4 hour trips back from Vermont, I tested the limits of my car yet again, but threw a rod while doing 120 on the highway.

I grew so attached to that car that I had to go out and get another one. I recently purchased a 1991 Crown Victoria (it couldn't be any other year because I love the style), but this one now has the police package with a 351 5.8 liter engine and a POSI rear end. I can't tell you how much fun I will have in this car.

The only reason I rated this car a 7 instead of a ten for reliability is because of the blown engine, but I do agree it was entirely my fault. If I hadn't messed around it would have been fixable in any case, just like all true American cars. This car is definitely a ten in my book and I don't think I will ever go with a different one.
