1988 Ford Crown Victoria LX review from North America
"A real car for short money!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Normal stuff, motor and transmition are still strong
The U-joints are starting to make a "clunk" after a high speed night on the highway.
When the car is hot and then parked there's a strong gas smell.
Biggest issue if the body, its never been hit, but its rusting out, I've been useing bondo and re-painting, but in a few more years I'll have holes on the doors. I took one of the door panels off and the bottom of the door had holes in it, but the panel covers them. Because of the rust I'm not going to be putting any money into it if something major go's wrong.
General comments?
I love this car! My dad bought it new and drove it from many years, then gave it to me.
Many people don't know how much these things can tow, with a tranny cooler they are good for 5000 pounds, I pull my boat all over the place with it.
They call it a grandma car, huh? Mine is black with raised white letter tires, and I get comments when I wax her up, does nice burn out, too.
When this one is no good anymore I'll get a 95'=97' Town car.
